Chapter 8 Tan Shen's Retirement Might Not Be Simple
Qin Yang and Cheng Ling finally realized Song Ni was missing and saw several missed calls on her phone. When they tried to call back, the phone was already turned off. By the time they finally found the fox tent, Song Ni had already begun to treat her wound. Qin Yang's brows furrowed as he looked at the gash on her leg. "How did this happen?" Song Ni reached up to touch her nose and vaguely replied, "Just a fall." Even though they were good friends, she didn't want to tell them how she fell; it was too embarrassing. Cheng Ling noticed the wound on Song Ni's hand and quickly took her wrist, raising an eyebrow. "You fell quite hard, didn't you?" Although his words held a hint of teasing, he immediately took out bandages from the first-aid kit to dress Song Ni's wound. It was rather amusing that among the three of them, Cheng Ling, the big guy, was the most skilled at bandaging wounds. Song Ni looked at the butterfly knot tied on the back of her hand and curved her lips. "Doctor Cheng's bandaging skills are becoming more and more superb!" Cheng Ling snorted. He was a psychologist, yet because these two were such clumsy individuals, he had to do these things. "Your skin is so delicate; who knows how long it will take to fully heal. How did you fall like this?" Song Ni shrugged her shoulders, unwilling to say more. Qin Yang, meanwhile, sized up the tent. "Did you come here by yourself?" She didn't believe Song Ni would casually seek out a first-aid kit on someone else's territory. With her proud nature, she would have gotten up wherever she fell, called them, and waited. "Someone happened to see me and brought me over." Qin Yang's eyes widened. "Someone from fox? Could it be Tan Shen?" The racers and navigators were all competing, and the others were watching the race by the roadside. Song Ni's heart skipped a beat as she thought of the man's deep dark eyes and his warmth. She touched her earlobe. "I'm not sure." Then she tapped her chin. "The person was very tall, had a great physique, and... was quite handsome." Qin Yang gasped. When combined, and being from fox, it was highly likely to be Tan Shen! Seeing Qin Yang's reaction, Song Ni couldn't help but laugh. "He just went out, probably to watch the race. If you go look now, you might even run into him." Song Ni also had a small ulterior motive. Qin Yang was Tan Zheng's fan, and even if she hadn't heard anything about him for years, seeing him would let her know if it was him. "Sweetie, I'll head over first then?" After saying that, she seemed to feel a bit unkind and looked at Song Ni's injuries. "Go ahead. We'll wait for you in the car." As soon as she finished speaking, Qin Yang had already bolted. Cheng Ling had just finished tidying up the first-aid kit and snorted. "They're in their twenties, yet they still think they're little girls chasing after idols." Hearing this, Song Ni raised an eyebrow at his not-so-pleased expression and was amused. Song Ni found others to be generally clear-sighted. When she was young, Cheng Ling's relationship with them was not as close as it is now; they only became closer in high school. She knew exactly why. Only Yang Yang was foolish. Cheng Ling's feelings about the racing competition were not much different from Song Ni's, and neither of them intended to watch any longer. Song Ni reached out, smiling. "Would Dr. Cheng be so kind as to carry me?" Cheng Ling resignedly crouched down in front of Song Ni. Once they were in the car, he finally asked about the phone. Song Ni instinctively patted her pocket; it was empty. Oh, she remembered. The phone was in that person's pocket. Cheng Ling thoughtfully observed Song Ni's expression and finally asked the question that had been bothering him for days. "What do you think of that person from the Tan family?" Song Ni understood what Cheng Ling was thinking. Yang Yang was indeed too obsessed with racing in high school. Now that she had a possible connection with Tan Zheng through their families arranging a blind date, Cheng Ling's concern was whether Yang Yang's admiration for Tan Zheng would turn into romantic feelings. But she knew it was purely admiration and love for an idol, devoid of any romantic or sensual connection. As for her opinion of Tan Zheng... if the man from earlier was indeed Tan Zheng, she could only say that she was starting to look forward to Friday. Thinking of this, Song Ni slightly curved her lips. "Quite interesting." Her words were vague, but Cheng Ling understood. If Song Ni didn't object to the blind date with Tan Zheng, and if things were similar on Tan Zheng's side, the marriage alliance between the two families would go smoothly. The circle was like this; marriage involved too many things, and love was the least valued. If the two could not dislike each other, they would have reached the threshold for combining. If they could like each other, it would be a fairy tale. Cheng Ling secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he shouldn't think this way, but if Song Ni married Tan Zheng, it would indeed remove a thorn from his side. The rain seemed to have stopped. Song Ni rolled down all the car windows and looked towards the race track. Apart from the high ground and the crowds, she couldn't see anything else, nor could she see that tall figure. She wondered if Yang Yang had found him. Qin Yang returned nearly half an hour later. The sky was overcast and dim. During the time Song Ni waited, she almost fell asleep. She lifted her somewhat heavy eyelids and saw Qin Yang's flushed face and the smile on her lips. Song Ni immediately woke up a bit. "Did you see him?" Her voice was hoarse at some point. Song Ni's eyebrows twitched, and she coughed a few times. "I saw him, I saw him! Ni Ni, after not seeing him for years, Tan Shen is simply too handsome!" Back at the spectator area, Qin Yang had been looking for Tan Zheng. He wasn't wearing the fox team uniform, but his build and aura were truly hard to ignore. She stood a few meters away from Tan Zheng, staring. It wasn't that she didn't dare to approach, but after not seeing her idol from her youth for years, she suddenly felt a sense of daze. However, her gaze was too direct and fervent, and Tan Zheng noticed her. The man looked over with a casual air, and paused when he saw Qin Yang's face. He had a good memory and recognized her as the friend who had picked up Song Ni that night. Qin Yang excitedly stepped forward, probably too excited to think before speaking. "Tan Shen, I'm your fan. I've always hoped you would return to the racing track!" As soon as she finished speaking, Qin Yang knew she had said the wrong thing. The reason for Tan Zheng's retirement was unknown, but it was certainly a personal matter he kept private. Tan Zheng's expression remained unchanged, but his eyes turned colder. Thinking of this, Qin Yang's demeanor instantly calmed down. "Ni Ni, Tan Shen's retirement back then might really not have been simple." Song Ni was startled and instinctively began tapping her leg. She didn't feel pain even when she touched her wound. She remembered the yellow earth and the muddy water splashed by the speeding cars. When Tan Zheng was young, he was just as unrestrained and arrogant. Song Ni then thought of the man's hands. The veins on the back of his hands were very sexy. She suddenly wondered what it would be like for those hands to be driving. So, Song Ni called home after returning. She agreed to the blind date on Friday and made a request that wasn't really a demand. She wanted Tan Zheng to pick her up from school. (End of this chapter)
