Inside the seaside villa, Yan Xi and Yan Zi Tong were watching television.
Mu Qing Xiang's death had become a trending topic.
When Yan Xi saw the news on television, her heart was filled with mixed emotions.
Although Mu Qing Xiang's attitude towards her hadn't been very good, she had never done anything that truly harmed Yan Xi.
Mu Qing Xiang's unfavorable attitude was only because she felt sorry for Fu Yan Ting.
Yet, now, they were separated by death.
Yan Xi wanted to go to the Fu family to pay her respects, but she didn't know what identity to use.
Yan Zi Tong watched television, also feeling uneasy. Although this grandmother had been bad and hadn't treated him and his mother well, she was still his relative. It was his first experience of losing a family member, and the feeling was not good. Yan Zi Tong’s spirits were low.
"Mommy, what is death?"
Yan Zi Tong looked at Yan Xi and suddenly asked.
Yan Xi paused, then explained, "To be dead is to be separated from us, to go alone to another world. Just like Mommy, when I get old, I will also be separated from you and go to another world."
Despite her sadness, Yan Xi still explained it to Yan Zi Tong.
Hearing Yan Xi's explanation, Yan Zi Tong didn't know how to react.
"Baby, will you wait for Mommy to come back obediently?"
Yan Xi suddenly made up her mind. Regardless of how the Fu family treated her or what the media thought, she decided to go to the Fu family to see Mu Qing Xiang one last time and bid her farewell.
Yan Zi Tong, though young, was very perceptive. Although he didn't ask anything, he knew very well where Yan Xi was going. He nodded slightly.
Yan Xi changed into a black woolen coat and prepared to leave.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Fu Yan Ting standing at the entrance.
Yan Xi was stunned, thinking she was seeing things. How could Fu Yan Ting possibly be here?
She blinked her eyes hard, then opened them again. Fu Yan Ting was still there.
She pinched her arm hard. It hurt, making Yan Xi frown. Yan Xi was sure she wasn't dreaming; Fu Yan Ting was really here.
But why Fu Yan Ting would be here became Yan Xi's question.
Fu Yan Ting saw all of Yan Xi's small actions.
He couldn't help but frown. How could this woman still be so foolish?
He had thought that after Yan Xi got together with Mu Jing Chen, she would become a little smarter. Now it seemed he had overestimated Yan Xi.
Once sure she wasn't dreaming, Yan Xi asked indifferently, "How did you know I was here?"
Mu Qing Xiang had passed away, so shouldn't Fu Yan Ting be at the Fu family's handling Mu Qing Xiang's funeral?
Why would he suddenly appear here?
Fu Yan Ting wanted to question Yan Xi, asking why she didn't tell him she was alive, making him worry and grieve for so long in vain.
But when Fu Yan Ting saw Yan Xi standing there perfectly fine, the words caught in his throat.
He couldn't utter a single questioning word.
No matter what, as long as Xi Xi was alive, it was enough.
Fu Yan Ting said nothing, stepped forward, and embraced Yan Xi. He deeply understood the joy of having found something he thought was lost.
Initially, Yan Xi's departure and his grandmother's death had been a huge blow to Fu Yan Ting, as if he had lost the whole world. But now, seeing Yan Xi standing here, held in his arms, Fu Yan Ting felt his world was complete again.
When Yan Xi saw Fu Yan Ting holding her, she instinctively wanted to pull away, but Fu Yan Ting stopped her.
Fu Yan Ting's voice was low and hoarse as he murmured, "Xi Xi, don't go. Let me hold you for a while."
Yan Xi had intended to leave, but upon hearing Fu Yan Ting's words, her legs felt as if they were no longer under her control. She stood there motionlessly and finally allowed Fu Yan Ting to hold her tightly.
Yan Xi comforted herself, telling herself that Fu Yan Ting was in a bad mood, and perhaps if she let him hold her like this, he would feel a little better.
After an unknown amount of time, Fu Yan Ting reluctantly released his arms around Yan Xi.
He looked at Yan Xi, like a wronged little bride, and questioned, "Xi Xi, since you're alive, why didn't you tell me? You made me look like a fool. I thought I would never see you again."
Having known each other for so many years, this was the first time Fu Yan Ting had said such mushy words to Yan Xi. Yan Xi didn't know how to respond for a moment.
Fu Yan Ting was silent for a moment, then spoke again, "Xi Xi, promise me you won't leave me again, okay? You know, I only have you."
"Okay, I won't leave you again."
Hearing Fu Yan Ting say this, Yan Xi's heart tightened. Fu Yan Ting was such a proud person, yet now he spoke such words, which made Yan Xi feel even more heartache for him.
Neither Yan Xi nor Fu Yan Ting noticed that outside the villa, Mu Jing Chen's hands were clenched into tight fists.
Mu Jing Chen had thought that since Fu Yan Ting believed Yan Xi was dead, he would no longer pester Yan Xi, and he and Yan Xi could be together forever.
But Mu Jing Chen hadn't expected Fu Yan Ting to find Yan Xi so quickly and say such things to her.
If these were words he said to Yan Xi, would she agree so readily?
The more Fu Yan Ting pestered Yan Xi, the stronger Mu Jing Chen's desire to kill Fu Yan Ting became.
Fu Yan Ting didn't stand on ceremony.
After a brief exchange with Yan Xi, he entered the house, not forgetting to close the door behind him.
Yan Xi frowned at Fu Yan Ting's smooth actions and said with annoyance, "Fu Yan Ting, shouldn't you be back to handle the old lady's funeral? What are you doing coming inside?"
Fu Yan Ting's eyes were locked onto Yan Xi, making her uncomfortable. She asked, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
Fu Yan Ting didn't reply. Yan Xi, feeling increasingly uneasy under his gaze, asked again, "Fu Yan Ting, why are you looking at me like that? What happened?"
"Xi Xi, there's something I need to ask you. You must answer me honestly."
Yan Xi, rarely seeing Fu Yan Ting's serious demeanor, knew something important must have happened.
Yan Xi nodded, waiting for Fu Yan Ting to speak.
Fu Yan Ting chose his words carefully, pondering how to ask without being misunderstood by Yan Xi.
"Xi Xi, what are your feelings towards Mu Jing Chen?"
Yan Xi froze. She hadn't expected Fu Yan Ting to ask her this question. Perhaps, in Fu Yan Ting's heart, he still didn't believe she loved him and thought she had stayed by his side for ulterior motives.
