Fu Yan Ting noticed there had been no news from Yan Xi for two days. Logically, if Yan Xi knew he was still alive, and if she truly cared for him, she would have continued to inquire at the Fu family's residence. Yet, she only came once and never returned. Fu Yan Ting had even prepared what he would say when Yan Xi returned: that he was not dead.
A bit proud, Fu Yan Ting called Xin Yi and asked indifferently, "Where is Mu Jing Chen? How has he been lately?"
"Sir, Mu Jing Chen is quite capable," Xin Yi replied.
Fu Yan Ting raised an eyebrow. Xin Yi was his subordinate, and having witnessed Fu Yan Ting's capabilities over the years, it was rare for him to praise someone so highly. Hearing Xin Yi commend Mu Jing Chen so strongly, Fu Yan Ting was slightly shocked. He looked at Xin Yi, gesturing for him to explain further.
Xin Yi knew his words might not be what Fu Yan Ting wanted to hear, but he reported truthfully, "Mu Jing Chen was kicked out of the Mu family. He has nothing now, yet he went to the capital. He even managed to resolve all the criminal evidence we submitted to the public prosecutor's office."
Upon hearing Xin Yi's report, Fu Yan Ting raised his eyebrows slightly. It seemed this Mu Jing Chen indeed possessed some talent, not being as gentle as he appeared. Fu Yan Ting didn't press further, but his gaze remained fixed on Xin Yi. Xin Yi understood that Fu Yan Ting wasn't concerned about Mu Jing Chen's situation anymore; rather, Fu Yan Ting was waiting for news about Yan Xi.
Xin Yi couldn't comprehend why Fu Yan Ting cared so much about Yan Xi, even after how much she had hurt him.
Xin Yi whispered, "Yan Xi has also gone to the capital."
Initially, Fu Yan Ting was indifferent, but upon hearing that Mu Jing Chen was in the capital and Yan Xi had followed him there, Fu Yan Ting's expression turned extremely grim. Xin Yi knew that no matter how tough Fu Yan Ting pretended to be, his heart always leaned towards Yan Xi. Xin Yi dared not speak further, unsure how to comfort Fu Yan Ting.
Fu Yan Ting suddenly said, "Book me a ticket. I'm going to the capital."
Xin Yi felt a pang of helplessness. *Boss, you chase your wife so diligently, yet she knows nothing. What's the point?*
Hours later, Fu Yan Ting arrived in the capital. As soon as he deplaned, he went to the hospital to find Yan Xi. *That ungrateful woman is so good to other men, yet so terrible to me.* Fu Yan Ting grumbled inwardly. Upon reaching the hospital, he saw Yan Xi lying weakly on the hospital bed and scoffed. *She chases after a man so diligently, and now she's lying in a hospital bed, and Mu Jing Chen hasn't even come to visit or care for her.*
Sensing someone at the hospital room door, Yan Xi turned her head and saw Fu Yan Ting standing at the entrance. Yan Xi frowned. *Why is he here? Shouldn't he be in Yan Cheng?*
Yan Xi spoke softly, asking, "How come you're here?"
"As soon as he had trouble, you immediately came to the capital to see him. Is he that important to you?" Fu Yan Ting’s "he" naturally referred to Mu Jing Chen. However, Yan Xi, unaware that Mu Jing Chen had come to the capital, thought Fu Yan Ting was referring to Yao Wan Qi.
Without a second thought, Yan Xi replied, "Of course. Although we haven't spent much time together, she is the most important person in my life, the one I care about the most."
Hearing Yan Xi's words, Fu Yan Ting suddenly smiled, though the smile didn't reach his eyes. He snorted coldly and said irritably, "You say he's the person you care about the most? Then what about… my older brother?"
"There's no comparison at all." To Yan Xi, both Fu Yan Ting and Yao Wan Qi were the most important people in her life, but Yao Wan Qi represented familial care, while Fu Yan Ting represented love. However, Yan Xi didn't want to explain this to anyone. Her relationship with Fu Yan Ting was a secret she kept in her heart. Even though he was Fu Yan Ting's brother, she still didn't want him to know the extent of her care for Fu Yan Ting.
There was no comparison. Fu Yan Ting was amused by Yan Xi's dismissive words. Yan Xi was truly audacious, saying there was no comparison. Where was he inferior to Mu Jing Chen? Yan Xi cared so much for an illegitimate son, yet she didn't care for Fu Yan Ting in the same way. This deeply wounded Fu Yan Ting. For the first time in his life, Fu Yan Ting cared so much for a woman, only for her to tell him that he was incomparable to another man.
"Why no comparison? Tell me, what makes him better than me, that you are so devoted to him?" Fu Yan Ting's gaze towards Yan Xi grew colder by the second.
Yan Xi was completely bewildered by Fu Yan Ting's words, not understanding why he was acting so irrationally again. She looked at him, blinking. *Is this person out of his mind? How can he compare himself to my own mother? If Fu Yan Ting were here, he wouldn't be so petty.* Yan Xi looked at Fu Yan Ting as if he were mentally challenged. She couldn't be bothered to explain. Coupled with her physical discomfort and her worry for Yao Wan Qi, she didn't want to explain any further. Since the man had misunderstood, she would let him continue to misunderstand. It would save him from buzzing around her ears like a headless fly.
Yan Xi was truly tired and wanted some peace. She glared angrily at Fu Yan Ting and turned away, ignoring him.
However, Fu Yan Ting didn't give Yan Xi a chance to escape. He grabbed her hand and, as she was turning away, he pulled her body around. As if in punishment, Fu Yan Ting's lips pressed hard against hers. Yan Xi resisted the kiss, wanting to struggle, but Fu Yan Ting wouldn't give her the opportunity. Yan Xi was already weak and not as strong as Fu Yan Ting. After a few struggles, she not only failed to break free but also became exhausted. Yan Xi gave up, gradually surrendering to the kiss.
Perhaps it was the man's overwhelming presence, or perhaps he had a face exactly like Fu Yan Ting's, but as he held her tightly, Yan Xi slowly closed her eyes. Yan Xi told herself that this was the first and last time; she would indulge herself once and pretend he was Fu Yan Ting. Yan Xi truly missed Fu Yan Ting.
She wanted to experience Fu Yan Ting's tenderness through this method, even if it was self-deception.
