To Yan Xi, Yan Zitong was her life.
Yan Xi could not possibly leave Yan Zitong alone and unattended here.
Yan Xi snorted coldly. Mu Qingxiang's attitude towards Yan Xi was now as harsh as her past kindness.
Yan Xi was indifferent to Mu Qingxiang's attitude, as she no longer wanted any entanglement with Fu Yan Ting.
However, Mu Qingxiang's refusal to return her child to her was outrageous.
Ignoring their past acquaintance, Yan Xi stepped forward to snatch Yan Zitong. Mu Qingxiang, with sharp eyes, saw Fu Yan Ting not far away. As Yan Xi reached out, she deliberately leaned back, falling heavily and hitting her head on the ground.
Yan Xi had no idea why Mu Qingxiang fell; she hadn't touched her at all.
Soon, Fu Yan Ting approached Mu Qingxiang.
He cast a cold glance at Yan Xi and said in a detached and distant tone, "What did you do to my grandmother?"
Seeing Fu Yan Ting glare at her, Yan Xi knew that even if she explained now, he wouldn't believe her.
The family doctor quickly arrived. Seeing Yan Xi, the doctor was surprised again, not expecting the girl he'd seen before to be at the Fu residence.
But the doctor didn't have time to ponder, signaling Fu family servants to help lift the old lady onto the bed in the bedroom. He then began to examine her.
The old lady lay there with her eyes closed. The family doctor signaled for everyone else to leave and began his examination. Once everyone was out, the doctor coughed and said, "Old Madam, it's just you and me here. You can get up now."
Hearing this, Mu Qingxiang opened her eyes, showing no embarrassment.
She calmly addressed the butler, "If Yan Ting asks later, tell him I'm seriously injured. And keep that young girl away from Yan Ting. She's not a good person; she's approaching Yan Ting with an ulterior motive."
The family doctor remained silent upon hearing Mu Qingxiang's words.
Mu Qingxiang paused, then added, "I know you came all the way from Jing Du to Yan Cheng. It must be quite a compromise for the former director of Jing Du City First Hospital to be our Fu family's doctor. I also know you're only doing this to leverage the Fu family's power to find someone. As long as you do as I ask, I can help you."
Upon hearing Mu Qingxiang's words, the family doctor gave her a thumbs-up.
Mu Qingxiang was indeed the Fu family's First Lady. For so many years, despite being the family doctor, he had never mentioned his mission in Yan Cheng to anyone. He never expected Mu Qingxiang to know all along.
After a brief deliberation, the family doctor nodded and said, "Alright, I hope we can cooperate happily."
Outside the door.
Yan Xi looked at Fu Yan Ting, her brow furrowed. Although Fu Yan Ting's attitude wasn't the most important thing to Yan Xi, she still didn't want him to misunderstand her.
Yan Xi said calmly, "Your grandmother's fall has nothing to do with me. I didn't push her."
Fu Yan Ting cast a cold glance at Yan Xi, his eyes openly showing his disappointment.
With things having escalated this far, even if Yan Xi confessed, Fu Yan Ting wouldn't do much to her.
Yet, Yan Xi was persistently shirking responsibility.
Thinking this, Fu Yan Ting's gaze turned even more menacing.
"I really didn't do this. I don't know why she suddenly fell. Fu Yan Ting, if you don't believe me, you can check the surveillance footage."
Yan Xi was truly anxious.
She could be framed by Mu Qingxiang, misunderstood by Fu Yan Ting, but she didn't want to be an undeserved scapegoat.
Fu Yan Ting said in a detached, distant tone, "We'll see. Now is not the time to assign blame."
Shortly after, the family doctor emerged from Mu Qingxiang's room. He glanced thoughtfully at Yan Xi, then called Fu Yan Ting aside.
He reported to Fu Yan Ting, "Although the old lady has no external injuries, she sustained a head injury and has a mild concussion. She needs a period of rest and observation."
Fu Yan Ting nodded, signaling the doctor to leave.
Seeing Fu Yan Ting's attitude, Yan Xi felt that the truth would prevail. Even if Fu Yan Ting didn't believe her, she knew she was innocent.
Moreover, given Fu Yan Ting's current demeanor, even if she explained, he wouldn't believe her.
It might even backfire.
Yan Xi, holding Yan Zitong's hand, prepared to leave the Fu residence.
As she took a step, Fu Yan Ting grabbed her hand.
Yan Xi frowned.
Before Yan Xi could speak, Fu Yan Ting spoke first, "My grandmother is still lying inside. Don't you have anything to explain?"
"No. I've said all I need to say."
Yan Xi had already explained. It was Fu Yan Ting who chose not to believe her.
Now, he wanted her to explain again?
"Yan Xi, you're truly something."
Fu Yan Ting said this, almost grinding his teeth.
In reality, Mu Qingxiang was old, and falling ill was an expected occurrence.
Fu Yan Ting had no intention of blaming Yan Xi.
To Fu Yan Ting, Mu Qingxiang was his closest relative. Now that his loved one was injured, he felt vulnerable and wished Yan Xi could stay by his side to comfort him.
But this woman.
She either shifted blame or turned to leave.
Her actions had truly disappointed Fu Yan Ting.
Fu Yan Ting couldn't understand what he had ever seen in such a ruthless woman to be so infatuated with her.
"Thank you for your compliment, Mr. Fu. We, mother and son, will take our leave now."
Yan Xi finished speaking and once again prepared to leave.
Fu Yan Ting sneered and looked at Yan Xi, saying word by word, "It's because of you that my grandmother got hurt. My grandmother is still unconscious and hasn't woken up. Do you really think I'll let you leave?"
Yan Xi's eyes widened. She could never have imagined such words coming from Fu Yan Ting.
In truth, Fu Yan Ting simply didn't want Yan Xi to leave at this moment.
But he couldn't let go of his pride.
Hurtful words, spoken without thought, came tumbling out.
Fu Yan Ting paused, then continued, "Besides, didn't you say this child is our Fu family's child? If I let you leave like this, what if you stir up more trouble later? The Fu family is a respectable and well-known family; we care a lot about our reputation."
Every word Fu Yan Ting spoke was essentially telling Yan Xi that she was a scumbag woman who would stop at nothing to achieve her goals.
