This was the call Yan Xi received from the stranger using Fu Yan Ting's phone while she was caring for Yan Zi Tong in the hospital, informing her of Fu Yan Ting's accident.
Mu Qing Xiang, however, had seized upon this.
Mu Qing Xiang sneered at Yan Xi, her voice dripping with accusation, "Now that the evidence is before you, what else do you have to say?"
It was indeed Fu Yan Ting's phone that had called Yan Xi. If Yan Xi claimed it wasn't Fu Yan Ting who made the call, Mu Qing Xiang would likely not believe her.
Yan Xi fell silent.
Seeing Yan Xi's lack of a response, Mu Qing Xiang took it as an admission of guilt.
Yan Xi's silence only fueled Mu Qing Xiang's anger.
Unable to contain her fury, and feeling that Fu Yan Ting's suffering was in vain, Mu Qing Xiang raised her hand, preparing to strike Yan Xi again.
Yan Xi knew Mu Qing Xiang intended to hit her, but she had no intention of dodging.
Regardless of whether Fu Yan Ting had called her, Mu Qing Xiang was right; Fu Yan Ting had been injured because of her.
Yan Xi felt a pang of guilt. If Mu Qing Xiang hitting her would ease her conscience, then Yan Xi wouldn't resist, allowing Mu Qing Xiang to vent her anger.
Yan Xi braced herself for the blow, but Mu Qing Xiang's hand remained suspended.
Yan Xi opened her eyes to see Mu Jing Chen shielding her, his hand firmly grasping Mu Qing Xiang's raised arm.
Yan Xi blinked in surprise, then asked, "Jing Chen, why are you here?"
Mu Jing Chen glanced at Yan Xi and said softly, "If I hadn't come, how long were you going to let Fu family members bully you?"
Yan Xi had no answer to Mu Jing Chen's question.
Mu Qing Xiang already harbored deep prejudices against Yan Xi, stemming from Yan Xi's insistence on divorcing Fu Yan Ting, disregarding his feelings.
She had even gone so far as to do many things that hurt Fu Yan Ting in her pursuit of a divorce.
Every time this thought crossed her mind, Mu Qing Xiang's anger flared.
Especially now, with Fu Yan Ting in emergency surgery, and seeing Yan Xi displaying affection with this other man in front of her, Mu Qing Xiang's rage escalated.
"Xi Xi, are you alright?"
Mu Jing Chen looked at Yan Xi's face, his heart aching.
However, he had to steel himself. If Yan Xi didn't suffer some hardship in the Fu family, she wouldn't be able to let go of Fu Yan Ting.
To make Yan Xi give up Fu Yan Ting, Mu Jing Chen needed to let her face certain issues alone.
Yan Xi shook her head, too worried about Fu Yan Ting to even question Mu Jing Chen's sudden appearance.
Mu Qing Xiang pointed a trembling finger at Yan Xi, her voice laced with fury, "Get out! Stay away from my grandson."
Despite Mu Qing Xiang's outburst, Yan Xi remained steadfast, unwilling to leave Fu Yan Ting's hospital room.
Seeing this, Mu Jing Chen patted Yan Xi's shoulder, offering silent comfort.
Then, Mu Jing Chen gently pulled Mu Qing Xiang aside. He glanced back at Yan Xi, and seeing her completely focused on Fu Yan Ting's room, not looking their way, Mu Jing Chen felt a sense of relief.
He turned to Mu Qing Xiang and said in a low voice, "Old Madam, if you want Yan Xi to leave Fu Yan Ting completely, you shouldn't act so impulsively."
"I'm not being impulsive. I genuinely want Yan Xi to leave my grandson. Look, ever since he got together with her, he's had no peace. If they continue to be together, I fear my Fu family might as well buy this hospital."
"Old Madam, I understand you're very angry right now. I might have a way to separate them permanently. Would you be willing to try?"
Mu Qing Xiang's eyes lit up at Mu Jing Chen's words, as if she had found a glimmer of hope.
Knowing that Mu Jing Chen and Yan Xi had a close relationship, she understood that his words to Mu Qing Xiang were intended to break them up.
Mu Qing Xiang chose to trust Mu Jing Chen.
She looked at Mu Jing Chen and asked excitedly, "What way?"
Mu Jing Chen leaned in and whispered a few words into Mu Qing Xiang's ear. Although Mu Qing Xiang's brow furrowed slightly, she conceded that with Fu Yan Ting still unconscious, it wasn't an entirely bad plan.
While the method might not be entirely honorable, given Fu Yan Ting's current condition, anything that could make Yan Xi leave Fu Yan Ting and stop bothering him in the future was something Mu Qing Xiang was willing to do.
Three days later.
Fu Yan Ting woke up. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw a girl sitting beside him. This girl looked exactly like Yan Xi.
Fu Yan Ting couldn't help but frown. Although she looked identical, he instantly recognized that this girl was not Yan Xi.
Yan Xi's gaze held a hint of slyness.
She had the air of someone whose little scheme had succeeded.
However, the girl before him looked at him with a trace of fear, as if terrified of being discovered by Fu Yan Ting.
Fu Yan Ting opened his mouth slightly and asked, "Who are you?"
The girl was startled, then replied, "Yan Ting, it's me, Yan Xi. Don't you recognize me?"
Fu Yan Ting smiled.
This girl was truly identical to Yan Xi, as if carved from the same mold. Yet, Fu Yan Ting knew with certainty that she was not Yan Xi.
"Yan Ting, let's be good to each other from now on. No more arguments, okay?"
Fu Yan Ting looked at the girl but remained silent.
"Even if not for ourselves, then for the child, we should be good to each other."
Fu Yan Ting asked, "Child?"
The girl nodded, then showed him a photo. The picture showed Yan Zi Tong wearing a baseball cap while skiing, followed by a photo of a little girl.
The little girl looked exactly like Yan Zi Tong, but due to her chronic illness, she appeared much thinner and frailer than Yan Zi Tong.
Fu Yan Ting stared at the little girl in the photo for a long time.
Seeing Fu Yan Ting fixated on the photo on her phone, the girl knew he was starting to believe her words.
A faint smile touched the girl's lips.
She had been afraid that Fu Yan Ting would deny everything and refuse to believe her.
Now, seeing him engrossed in the photo, she knew she had found her opening.
The girl said with a feigned aggrieved expression, "Five years ago, after I left you, I discovered I was pregnant. The doctor told me it was twins. I couldn't bring myself to abort them, so I gave birth. However, I didn't expect my younger sister to be born weak and sickly, requiring constant hospitalization and relying on medication to survive."
Fu Yan Ting's voice was hoarse and slightly trembling as he softly asked, "Can I see her?"
Perhaps it was his paternal love, but upon seeing the photo of Yan Fei Fei, Fu Yan Ting's emotions became somewhat agitated.
