Chapter 86 Will it be Fu Yan Ting?
Yan Xi had originally planned to see Yao Wan Qi home and then bid farewell to Mr. Yao. However, upon seeing Yan Xiao and her evident distress, Yan Xi suddenly changed her mind. Since Mr. Yao had asked Yan Xi to stay, Yan Xi decided to oblige.
“Grandpa, why wasn't I informed that we had a guest?”
Yan Xiao pouted as she approached Mr. Yao, casting a cold, triumphant glance at Yan Xi along the way.
Yan Xi remained unfazed, offering a faint smile.
“You’re too old to be so restless. By the way, the Fu family from Yan Cheng will be visiting the capital in a few days. I see you’re about the same age as the Fu family’s grandson, so I’ve arranged a blind date for you. Do you have any objections?”
Although Mr. Yao was asking Yan Xiao, his tone implied that her consent was not truly required.
Yan Xi’s body stiffened. The Fu family? Could it be Fu Yan Ting? Yan Xiao already had a betrothal to Fu Yan Ting, and she had gone to great lengths to marry him. Now, such a perfect opportunity had presented itself, and Yan Xiao had no reason to refuse.
Yan Xiao nodded gently and replied, “I’ll do whatever Grandpa says.”
Mr. Yao was very pleased with Yan Xiao’s answer.
Three days later, Fu Yan Ting arrived in the capital. Yan Xi knew he was here to discuss matters with the Yao family. She didn’t want to encounter him, especially not at the Yao residence, but Yan Xi didn't know how to escape. For the past few days, Yan Xi had hinted several times that she wished to leave the Yao family, but Mr. Yao would always inquire if she was unaccustomed to living there. Yao Wan Qi also clung to Yan Xi daily. Leaving was proving difficult.
Ultimately, Yan Xi did encounter Fu Yan Ting, in the capital, at the Yao family’s home. Both were guests of the Yao family. The difference was that Mr. Yao intended to foster a relationship between Yan Xiao and Fu Yan Ting. Fu Yan Ting, it seemed, didn't refuse; he accompanied Yan Xiao every time she invited him out.
Watching Yan Xiao and Fu Yan Ting walk away together, Mr. Yao glanced at Yan Xi and asked, “Don't you think they make a perfect match?”
Yan Xi’s heart skipped a beat. She wondered if Mr. Yao had seen through her. His gaze, profound and unreadable, left Yan Xi unable to decipher his thoughts.
As Yan Xiao and Fu Yan Ting left the Yao residence, Yan Xiao asked with delight, “Yan Ting, shall we go watch a movie?”
“Are we close?” Fu Yan Ting replied coldly.
Yan Xiao’s initially enthusiastic expression instantly turned awkward. She looked at Fu Yan Ting, unable to comprehend the sudden shift. Weren't things fine before? Why was he so indifferent and distant now? Where had things gone wrong?
“You want to watch a movie?” Fu Yan Ting glanced at Yan Xiao and asked.
Yan Xiao, unsure of his intentions, stared at him blankly. This man always exuded an air of superiority, making him enigmatic, which only fueled Yan Xiao's obsession. If he hadn't fallen into a coma, they would have been married by now, and Yan Xi would have had no part in it. The thought fueled Yan Xiao's resentment.
As soon as Fu Yan Ting finished speaking, the car neared the movie theater. Fu Yan Ting instructed the driver to stop and let Yan Xiao out, saying coldly, “My assistant will handle my tasks. He will accompany you to the movie.” With that, he drove away, leaving behind a distressed assistant and a bewildered Yan Xiao. Before Yan Xiao could even process what had happened, Fu Yan Ting had already sped off.
Back in her room, Yan Xi felt an indescribable mix of emotions. She had watched Fu Yan Ting go on a date with Yan Xiao, yet she lacked the right to be angry. After all, she and Fu Yan Ting were divorced. He was free to be with whomever he chose, and Yan Xi had no claim.
Suddenly, the window was pushed open, startling Yan Xi. She initially thought an intruder had entered, but then reasoned that the Yao residence was heavily guarded. Besides, this was the second floor; even a thief wouldn't be able to climb up. Reassuring herself, Yan Xi walked to the windowsill, pulled back the curtains, and saw Fu Yan Ting’s face.
Yan Xi thought she was mistaken and blinked hard. Fu Yan Ting’s image remained. Biting her lip, Yan Xi stared intently at Fu Yan Ting, her heart a complex swirl of emotions. She wasn't sure whether to be happy or angry. They were divorced, with no connection. Even if Fu Yan Ting was with Yan Xiao, it had nothing to do with Yan Xi. Yet, seeing him there, Yan Xi felt a surge of happiness.
Fu Yan Ting, seeing Yan Xi’s piteous expression, felt a pang of pity. But then he remembered how she had heartlessly abandoned him, and his gaze turned cold. He spoke indifferently, “Are you trying to seduce me?”
Hearing Fu Yan Ting’s mocking voice, Yan Xi’s face turned extremely unpleasant. She looked at him and asked irritably, “Didn’t you go to the movies with Yan Xiao? What are you doing here?”
“What? Do I need to report my actions to you?” Fu Yan Ting raised an eyebrow and asked indifferently.
Yan Xi's expression grew even more grim. She lowered her head, fidgeting with her fingers, and remained silent.
“Fu Yan Ting, you’d better leave my room quickly. It won’t be good if someone finds you here later,” Yan Xi mumbled softly.
Although her voice was faint, Fu Yan Ting heard her clearly. He raised an eyebrow and asked, feigning ignorance, “What wouldn’t be good?”
Yan Xi shot him an exasperated look. Did she really need to explain what wouldn't be good?
Fu Yan Ting jolted and leaped from the windowsill. Yan Xi screamed in fright. Fu Yan Ting quickly moved in front of her and pressed his lips firmly against hers, silencing her cries. The faint scent of tobacco, mixed with cologne and his unique masculine aroma, made Yan Xi feel a sense of surrender. The kiss lasted for an unknown duration before Fu Yan Ting reluctantly released her.
Yan Xi’s face was flushed, and she dared not meet Fu Yan Ting’s gaze. Seeing her shy expression, Fu Yan Ting seemed satisfied. He looked at her and said calmly, “If you don’t want anyone to know I’m in your room, it’s best not to make a sound.”
Yan Xi glared at Fu Yan Ting and muttered, “You scoundrel.”
