Chapter 22 You Are Here to Back Her Up

Chen Ling said nothing, just subtly clenched her jaw.

Shang Sheng put down his notebook, stood up, and walked to the hospital bed. With his hands in his pockets, he said, "Don't be so sharp with your words. Secretary Chen was just here to report on yesterday's work."

Qin Yige placed the thermometer under her armpit, tidied her clothes, and leaned against the headboard.

"Already defending her?"

Shang Sheng glanced at her lightly and directly instructed the nurse, "Send breakfast in."

"Certainly, Mr. Shang."

The nurse left.

While there was a moment, Shang Sheng brought up yesterday's matter. "Since everyone is here, let's resolve this. Who wants to speak first? What happened yesterday?"

Qin Yige: "You answer one question for me first."

"Speak."

"Are you here to back her up, or do you want to uphold justice?"

Shang Sheng paused. "Uphold justice."

Qin Yige sneered, "I don't believe you!"

Shang Sheng: "..."

She asked even though she didn't believe him.

Chen Ling walked to the foot of the bed and spoke first. "Mr. Shang, I've reflected all night. What happened yesterday was my fault. I shouldn't have stopped Madam from eating what she wanted. Madam was right to scold me and right to hit me. I shouldn't have butted in."

Qin Yige directly interjected, "It's good that you know where you went wrong."

Chen Ling: "..."

Shang Sheng's gaze fell on the girl's face. "No matter what, you can't hit anyone. You are no longer Miss Qin, you are Mrs. Shang. You need to watch your words and actions from now on."

Qin Yige's habit of hitting people was a serious issue. Normally, when they were together, they wouldn't speak for more than a few sentences before she'd start. She'd either pinch him or punch him a couple of times.

He was criticizing her again! He only ever lectured her!

Qin Yige indignantly questioned the man, "Mr. Shang, Mr. Shang, do you think I, Qin Yige, am easy to bully? You also know I'm Mrs. Shang. Your secretary doesn't take me seriously. Is that right? She's two-faced. She's sarcastic to me, but acts so meek when facing you, as if I've bullied her. If I don't hit her, who should I hit?"

If she could turn back time, she would have slapped Chen Ling twice!

No, she would have directly swollen her mouth. Otherwise, she'd really think that Qin Yige was easy to bully!

Chen Ling softly defended herself, "Madam, you've misunderstood. I didn't not take you seriously. I was just worried about your health..."

Qin Yige ignored her and looked at Shang Sheng. "She says she was worried about my health. Do you believe her?"

Shang Sheng pinched the space between his eyebrows and didn't answer her question. He turned back to Chen Ling. "Secretary Chen, from now on, when you see Madam, treat her as you would treat me. Whatever Madam says goes. If you encounter something you can't decide on, you can call me first."

Qin Yige was rather difficult to handle. Going along with her was the quickest way to resolve things.

His tone hadn't changed much from usual, but Chen Ling still heard the seriousness and a hint of blame.

She suppressed her sadness and softly replied, "Yes, Mr. Shang."

Even so, Qin Yige was still in a bad mood.

But she didn't say anything, feeling it would be useless.

Just like how being Mrs. Shang was useless, it couldn't change her relationship with Shang Sheng.

Shang Sheng probably wished she'd die of anger!

After confirming that Qin Yige was no longer a problem, Shang Sheng had someone arrange her discharge.

The car that picked them up today was a black Ghost. Before getting in, Qin Yige noticed the driver had changed.

She had planned not to get in the car if it were the same driver as the past couple of days, but he had already been replaced.

She settled into the car and asked the man beside her in a deliberately displeased tone, "Where's your driver?"

Shang Sheng knew who she was referring to. While fastening his seatbelt, he answered her question, "He's gone."

Qin Yige didn't expect this answer and was slightly surprised. "Why is he gone?"

Shang Sheng glanced at her lightly. "If he were driving today, would Madam have gotten in the car?"

She was like a child, willful and prone to holding grudges, almost to the point of keeping a little notebook to record all her grievances, intending to get revenge one by one later.

He had seen what happened that day. He didn't need a driver like that.

Qin Yige: "..."

The answer was no.

But how would Shang Sheng know she wouldn't have gotten in the car?

"Fasten your seatbelt."

His command interrupted her wandering thoughts.

"Oh!" Qin Yige quickly pulled the seatbelt and fastened it.

The car slowly drove away and finally left the hospital.

Within two minutes, Qin Yige asked again, "Where's your precious secretary?"

The man calmly retorted, "I have many secretaries. I wonder which one Madam is asking about?"

"Stop pretending," Qin Yige pouted. "Secretary Chen!"

Shang Sheng looked at her. "I need to correct Madam. First, she is not my precious. Second, to avoid further conflicts between you two, I've let her take a taxi back to the company."

These two clearly couldn't stand each other, so there was no need to force them together.

Qin Yige, being bored, deliberately stirred up trouble. "Aren't you going to work soon? Actually, you could have let me take a taxi back, and you and she could have gone to the company together. It would save time."

This woman was a typical example of someone getting the best of both worlds and still complaining.

Shang Sheng tapped his fingertips on the armrest, appearing to ponder seriously. "I think you're right. How about I drop you off by the roadside now, and you can take a taxi back yourself?"

Qin Yige glanced at the bright sun outside the window, incredulous. "Shang Sheng, your true colors are showing! I knew your gentleness and submissiveness before were fake! It's nearly 40 degrees Celsius outside, and you want me to take a taxi back?! Do you think your wife is redundant and want to throw her out to be baked alive?"

"Didn't you suggest it?" Shang Sheng countered with a raised eyebrow.

"I was just saying, okay?"

"Okay, I was just saying it too!"

Qin Yige: "..."

It was truly bizarre. She actually thought Shang Sheng had changed recently, that he had become better.

That made sense. How could someone so deeply wicked and with black blood flowing through his veins possibly change for the better?

She had been naive!

She glared fiercely at the man beside her, only to discover he was actually chuckling!

His lips were curved so much they were practically touching his ears!!

Qin Yige gritted her teeth. "Is it that funny?"

If it weren't for the sun outside that could instantly turn a person into jerky, she would have slammed the car door and left. She wouldn't have given him the chance to mock her.

"Yes, it's quite funny," Shang Sheng answered frankly, not hiding it.

Qin Yige took a deep breath, gripped the armrest, and closed her eyes, silently trying to paculate herself: Don't be angry, don't be angry, Qin Yige. He's the son-in-law your parents painstakingly chose, your husband. Don't be angry!

Seeing that she was about to explode, Shang Sheng finally stopped smiling. "Shall we go pick out wedding rings now?"

"I! Won't! Go!" she declared loudly.

When she wanted to go, he was dismissive. Now that he wanted to go, she wouldn't.

"Krogril."

One of the most high-end jewelry brands in Port City.

"No! I don't care! This young lady doesn't care about your stinking money!" She wasn't without money herself!

Shang Sheng calmly took out his wallet. "Krogril received a batch of jewelry yesterday afternoon. It's said there's an exceptionally fine red tourmaline ring. They're preparing it as their 'treasure of the town'."

He held out an unlimited black gold card to her.

Qin Yige swallowed, her assertiveness weakening. "Is the store manager out of their mind? Tourmaline is considered a treasure of the town these days?"

"I don't know if the manager is out of their mind, but I do know that if we go late, it'll be gone. After all, it's a highly coveted piece of jewelry. There are plenty of wealthy people in Port City; someone will surely take it."
