Pan Yu felt that with Uncle Li, she and Cheng You were the same.
Both were disciples, so Cheng You had no right to drive her away.
As the two of them stood in a stalemate, Uncle Li walked out of the house.
"What are you arguing about?"
This was the first time he had seen these two young girls in such a tense situation.
Cheng You said, "The health center came to buy medicine from Cheng Tao. Pan Yu followed me around and copied the medicine-making process and prescriptions for Cheng Tao."
Uncle Li's eyes narrowed, and he looked at Pan Yu.
"Is what Cheng You said true?"
Pan Yu smiled slightly. "The prescriptions I copied were all taught to us by Uncle Li. This is not a secret at all."
Since it wasn't a secret, if Cheng Tao could sell the medicine to the health center, it was her own skill.
"Sister Cheng You, you couldn't keep the people from the health center, that's your own lack of ability, don't blame me. The prescription isn't a secret, and Cheng Tao is willing to give me money, so why shouldn't I do it?"
That ten yuan was easily earned, and she hadn't done anything to harm others, so why not?
Pan Yu felt she had done nothing wrong.
Cheng You didn't argue with her and looked at Uncle Li.
Uncle Li pondered for a moment and said, "You can go. You don't need to come back anymore."
Except for Zhou Yunru, Pan Yu was the one he had the highest hopes for.
So, he was somewhat disappointed by this incident.
If one's character is not good, anything else is in vain.
Pan Yu's expression changed slightly. "Uncle, why are you also asking me to leave? Sister Cheng You doesn't study medicine; she only knows how to make medicine. She can't possibly inherit your legacy."
"I'm just a barefoot doctor, with no legacy to inherit. In terms of talent, Zhou Yunru is better than you. I don't need you so much here."
Pan Yu's face turned pale, and a look of embarrassment flashed in her eyes.
"But I was introduced by the captain."
Cheng You chuckled, "He just wanted to get Cheng Tao in legitimately. Now that Cheng Tao is gone, do you think he still cares about you?"
Pan Yu bit her lip, unwilling to admit she was wrong.
If they wanted her to leave, fine. Who said she had to stay here!
Pan Yu silently packed her belongings and left.
The courtyard fell silent. Cheng You sat down with her head drooping.
Uncle Li comforted her, "It's alright. We'll pick two more good ones to help you later."
This time, he had misjudged someone.
Cheng You mumbled, "I'm fine."
She was just a little disappointed.
After all, she had been getting along with Pan Yu for so long, and she had considered Pan Yu a friend.
Cheng You slowly walked to the pharmacy and stayed inside for a while, looking at the piled-up goods on the ground. She figured they could be sold for a long time.
Just as she finished putting things away, she heard hurried footsteps outside.
"Uncle Li!"
Cheng You walked out and saw Widow Lin approaching.
"Cheng You, you're here, that's good. You explain to me properly, why did you kick my cousin out for no reason? Aren't you bullying people!"
Widow Lin was now alone, and her life was a little better only by staying close to her maternal family.
Now that Pan Yu had been bullied, and the person who bullied her was Cheng You, with new grudges added to old ones, how could she tolerate it?
"Did Pan Yu tell you what she did?"
Widow Lin's voice was sharp. "She did! She copied the medicine-making method to Cheng Tao, but it's not a secret, and Pan Yu isn't the only one who knows it. For the same prescription, the health center bought from Cheng Tao, you should look at your own problems."
Cheng You's head was buzzing from her shouting, and she couldn't be bothered to argue.
"Think whatever you want. Regardless, Pan Yu can no longer work here."
As she spoke, she prepared to walk out.
Widow Lin grabbed her arm. "No, you have to explain it to me clearly!"
Cheng You felt a sharp pain from being pinched and couldn't help but push her.
Unexpectedly, Widow Lin fell to the ground, crying pitifully.
"Cheng You, you're too much! You bullied Pan Yu, and now you're hitting people!"
Cheng You was utterly fed up and truly wanted to resort to force this time.
Before she could speak, Old Mother Li came out of the house.
Old Mother Li couldn't see where Widow Lin was and relied solely on her senses, tapping with her walking stick.
"You scoundrel! How dare you come to my house to make a scene! Lin Xiaoxiang, if you don't leave, I'll call your parents to collect your corpse!"
Widow Lin had been hit several times and didn't expect this old woman to be so strong despite her age.
"Grandma, I'm not causing trouble. I'm here to ask Uncle Li for an explanation!"
Old Mother Li dropped her walking stick, panting, and said angrily, "Since you're looking for my son, why are you talking to Cheng You? Aren't you just trying to pick on someone weaker, thinking she's easy to bully!"
Widow Lin got up from the ground, her voice a little aggrieved. "But Cheng You was the one who kicked my cousin out!"
"Bah! This isn't Cheng You's house, how could she make the decision? It was Li Yongdong who sent Pan Yu away, go find him!"
Seeing her like this, Widow Lin didn't dare to make any more trouble.
Anyway, Pan Yu had said that if she wasn't at Uncle Li's, she could go find Cheng Tao.
"I don't want an explanation anymore. You're all ganging up to bully people, and I have nowhere to reason with you."
With a few parting words, Widow Lin fled in panic, worried that Old Mother Li would hit her a few more times.
Cheng You went over to help her up and smiled, "Grandma, I'm fine."
Old Mother Li said huffily, "This person only bullies the weak. If she bothers you again next time, don't be polite, just hit her."
Uncle Li walked out of the house and said helplessly, "Mom, why are you teaching her like this?"
Cheng You was almost being corrupted by her.
Old Mother Li said indignantly, "If I don't teach her like this, should I wait for her to be bullied? And you, people come to find you, but you hide in the house and don't see them."
Uncle Li said sheepishly, "Mom, you know what Widow Lin is like."
When he encountered Widow Lin, it was like a scholar meeting a soldier.
With Widow Lin's shrewish temper, if Old Mother Li wasn't here, she would have caused more trouble.
Old Mother Li snorted, "It's too late. Cheng You, go home."
Cheng You helped her into the house. "Then I'll head home. Grandma, please rest well."
After dealing with all that, she felt exhausted and walked home slowly.
In the quiet night, only her footsteps could be heard.
As she reached the door, she heard a voice: "Why are you so late?"
She was startled and then saw Qi Chengyan.
"Why did you come over?"
Qi Chengyan took a bag out of his pocket.
"Have you eaten?"
It was the aroma of sesame flatbreads.
Cheng You opened the door and walked in, sighing.
"Not yet."
It just so happened that she didn't want to cook. She lit the kerosene lamp and sat down to eat the flatbreads.
Qi Chengyan poured her some water and sat beside her, watching her eat.
"Because of the health center incident?"
Cheng You hummed.
But it wasn't about the money, it was just that Pan Yu had angered her.
"I received a letter from my sister, and this one is for you."
Cheng You raised her eyebrows, took a sip of water, and accepted it.
"Why would my sister send me a letter?"
"Take a look."
