Chapter 516 The Only Clue
The Chinese medicinal herbs were also brought back. Asen took the herbs to the hotel kitchen and personally supervised the boiling, resolutely preventing anyone from having any contact.
The commotion on their floor still attracted considerable attention, with the hotel receptionists whispering amongst themselves.
The hotel manager even came up to inquire but was driven away without getting any answers. He had no choice but to call the Second Young Master, as he couldn't bear the responsibility if anything happened to the young lady.
Zi Yisheng had his face pressed against his wife's, quietly accompanying her. He truly didn't know what to do now, not even daring to move her to the bed to sleep more comfortably.
"Shengge, what should I do now? Are you going to leave me and the children? I haven't taken you to see the world yet."
"Xiao Mi'er has news. She'll be brought home safely tonight. I'll have the children come to accompany you then, okay?"
Zi Yisheng kept muttering in his wife's ear, afraid she would fall asleep forever.
"Young Master Zi, the two elders have already departed. Two drivers have been arranged to take turns driving, and they are expected to arrive the night after tomorrow, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Furthermore, Old Fan mentioned before leaving that as long as Madam takes her medicine, there won't be any major issues. Everything can wait until they arrive."
"Also, Ye Mu'en has called."
This finally elicited a reaction from Zi Yisheng. He reached out to stop Ouyang from continuing. His legs, which had been kneeling, were numb, and he almost couldn't stand up. He took a moment to recover and then hurried out.
"Speak."
"Ye Mu'en said that Min Lihua doesn't know much either. The other party contacted him by phone, promising to help him eliminate Min Xing and Tiantian after they helped hijack the child. He was only responsible for bribing people around Min Xing and revealing Min Xing's whereabouts. And the other party always contacted him first."
"Investigate the source of the phone calls, broaden the search area. They won't take Xiao Mi'er far unless they make demands. Seal off the entire Mingcheng; no one enters or exits."
The gloom in Zi Yisheng's eyes vanished as he looked towards the room door, replaced by only tenderness.
"From now on, do not speak of anything related to the children in this room."
"Yes. Our people still haven't found the car Min Xing was in when he was hit, nor have they found any trace of Ah Long and the others. We haven't detected any recent movements from any dangerous organizations either. We have no leads at all."
"Investigate foreign forces that have recently entered the country. Do not miss any potentially overlooked details. Reinvestigate these individuals in Chenghai City and interrogate Zhao Jiada again."
Zi Yisheng stood by the window at the end of the corridor, gazing at the dark night. For the first time, he felt a sense of powerlessness, especially when facing life itself. How could he save his wife's life!
Meanwhile, Xiao Mi'er, fumbling her way through the dark room, finally found a wooden door. She pushed it but it wouldn't budge. She then crouched down to look for a gap at the bottom, finding only a finger's width, just enough for her fingers to grip. But no matter how she pulled, the door didn't move.
"Aunt Tiantian, I've found a door here, but I can't open it."
Xiao Mi'er whispered towards the wall again, but she had already spun around in the room and was not facing the same wall as before.
"Aunt Tiantian, are you still there?"
"Aunt Tiantian, why aren't you talking anymore?"
"Wuwuwu, I want to find Mommy, I'm scared!"
Tiantian had already bumped her head many times, and her face was scratched in many places from trying to feel if it was a wall or a door.
Even though she hadn't found a door, she didn't believe she had been thrown in from nowhere. If there was no door, there had to be a window. The priority now was to untie the ropes on her hands and feet to proceed.
She had just rolled around the edges of the wall. Now she would roll around the entire room, refusing to believe she wouldn't find anything useful.
Mingcheng was in turmoil that night, with every house, even cellars, being searched, causing widespread panic.
Residents within a five-mile radius of the car accident site were all investigated and interrogated.
At a little past one in the morning, the investigators dispatched by Ye Mu'en finally delivered the first piece of good news for the night.
"We've found someone from Min Xing's group. However, the person is severely injured and has lost consciousness. Doctors are working tirelessly to save him."
"Where was he found?"
"In a ditch by the side of a road in the suburbs. The scene investigation found footprints of three people, and another companion was likely injured, but their whereabouts are currently unknown."
"Thank you for your hard work. Please continue the investigation and don't miss any clues. They should be transmitting information soon."
Ye Mu'en personally went to the site where the injured person was found. After a reconnaissance of the area, he drove to a village over ten miles away.
He got out of the car and, holding a flashlight, surveyed the road from the village entrance. This was the closest location to where the injured person was found, and there were no places to hide within a ten-mile radius. Even if the other injured person was hiding, they would seek a place with cover, making this area a prime spot.
As expected, Ye Mu'en found a few drops of fresh blood in the grass next to a dilapidated abandoned house. It seemed only about three hours had passed since the incident, and he had only just arrived.
Ye Mu'en quietly climbed over the fence into the yard and searched from room to room. Just as he was coming out of the kitchen, he heard footsteps next door.
"Stop! Hands up! I'll shoot if you run."
Ye Mu'en walked towards the figure, holding his flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other.
"State your name."
Ye Mu'en pressed the muzzle of the gun to the person's forehead and walked around to shine the flashlight on his face.
The figure also saw Ye Mu'en's face clearly and visibly relaxed.
"Young Master Ye, I'm one of Young Master Min's men. I fled here to escape pursuit."
"Why didn't you return to Mingcheng for help immediately?"
Ye Mu'en couldn't trust anyone now. Even if he was Min Xing's man, there was no guarantee of loyalty.
"Because there's a traitor among us. He stabbed us in the back during the confrontation."
"Where were you injured? How did you escape?"
"Young Master Zi's men arrived quickly, but then many people emerged from the side, causing chaos. However, Ah Ming and I stayed behind to block them, to buy Young Master Min time..."
Before Ye Mu'en could finish listening, he slammed the butt of his gun heavily onto the other person's forehead. The man cried out and collapsed.
"Young Master Ye, why did you hit me?"
"Because you're lying. The place where you had the car accident is at least thirty miles from here. How did you and Ah Ming get to the suburbs?"
"I... we really ran to the suburbs."
Ye Mu'en took out some powder with one hand and threatened the man with his gun to eat it. He couldn't waste any time. Perhaps he could get crucial information from this person.
"Whose man are you?"
"I was arranged by Elder Min as an insider. He ordered me to eliminate Min Xing and Mo Tiantian. During the chaos, I shot Min Xing, but there were too many people protecting him, and he escaped.
When we went to chase him, Ah Ming caught up. So I had to eliminate Ah Ming too. But Ah Ming also injured me. I was afraid to report back immediately and wanted to wait until daylight to see the situation."
"Do you know where the two girls were taken?"
