Chapter 29 Adoption
Ye Shengge was bewildered. What era was this, and how could something like this happen in the 1980s?
"How do you usually live?"
The boy placed his sister on the makeshift bed and quickly used a broken bowl to pour Ye Shengge a cup of water.
"Sometimes we beg for food, and sometimes we collect discarded junk and sell it to the recycling station for money."
Ye Shengge felt heartbroken. Living in such conditions, they would starve to death long before winter arrived.
"Are you very strong?"
"Sister, you noticed. I've been strong since I was little. Grandpa also taught me boxing, and I'm quite skilled."
Ye Shengge nodded with satisfaction. She needed a capable follower for errands, someone who could help when she couldn't go out herself.
"Are you willing to follow me? I'll support both of you, and you'll work for me for ten years. You can leave anytime you're capable."
The boy was initially happy, then shook his head.
"Sister's conditions aren't good either, and we can't burden you."
Ye Shengge's heart ached even more. Such sensible children had to be helped. Besides, he was very strong, which would definitely be useful to her later.
"Don't worry about that. You just need to make a decision."
The boy looked at his young sister, unsure how they would survive the winter. Gritting his teeth, he agreed. He then suddenly held his sister and knelt before Ye Shengge.
"What are you doing? Get up quickly."
The boy shook his head resolutely.
"Sister, you're raising us, and I'll give you my life. I'm kneeling to thank you for saving our lives."
He understood perfectly that in this day and age, no one would willingly raise two unknown children. As long as Sister could raise his sister, his life belonged to her from now on.
Ye Shengge sighed and helped them up.
"Since you've agreed, let's get acquainted first. My name is Ye Shengge, and I'm fifteen years old."
"My name is Mo Lin, and I'm ten years old. My sister's name is Mo Tiantian, and she's five years old."
Ye Shengge looked at Mo Lin's height and couldn't believe he was only ten. Thinking of the original host's height of 1.5 meters made her a bit depressed.
"Heh, you're really tall."
"My parents are tall, so I'm tall too."
"Alright, being tall is good. You can help me with work later."
Ye Shengge glanced at their living environment and realized they couldn't stay here any longer.
"Mo Lin, let's make an agreement now. Don't ask about my affairs in the future. Do as I tell you to do. Of course, I won't ask you to do anything like murder or arson."
Mo Lin puffed out his chest and patted it. His strength was such that it felt like he might crush his thin rib cage.
"Sister Shengge, don't worry, I will be very obedient."
"Alright, stop patting yourself. This place isn't suitable for living. Pack whatever you need to take, and we'll go rent a place."
Mo Lin was very obedient. He quickly pulled out a small cloth bag from under the makeshift bed. He took out two books and a small cloth bag and handed them to Ye Shengge.
"Sister Shengge, these are things left by my grandfather. I want to give them to you, and besides, I don't need them."
Ye Shengge took them and found two ancient medical books and a medical case record. Inside the cloth bag was a set of gold needles and a set of silver needles.
"Are you willing to give them to me?"
"Yes, my life belongs to Sister."
Ye Shengge truly wanted them, not only because she was interested in the medical books but also because the gold and silver needles were things she needed right now. She suspected they couldn't be bought here at all.
"Then I'll really accept them!"
"Accept them, accept them. If Sister likes them, I'll find more for you later."
Ye Shengge waved her hand grandly.
"Let's go. We'll find a place to settle down first. In a couple of days, I'll need you to help me with some errands."
