"If this guy blocked the entrance with his body, it was to prevent us from discovering..." Lin Chun spoke slowly after a long while, then his gaze fell upon a giant glass tank. "Could it be that this is where their king is kept?"
I followed his gaze and suddenly made another discovery.
Of the glass tanks outside, all those that did not contain monster corpses had been violently destroyed.
But this massive glass tank showed no signs of damage.
It was as if it had been opened with a key.
"What... is going on?" Lin Chun had also noticed this.
I shook my head.
Among all the things we could find in this place, there was only that photo frame and the picture within.
All other written records had been completely destroyed.
In other words, we couldn't find any written records.
Furthermore, no human remains were found here. Such a large base should have had many people.
But, these people were all gone, not even leaving behind their bones.
Had they evacuated, or was there some other situation?
If they evacuated, where did they go? Entering and exiting this deserted island had always been a matter of chance.
Lin Chun and his group being able to enter was also an accident.
If it was another situation, what had they encountered?
I pondered deeply, but found no answer.
"Shall we look elsewhere?" Lin Chun asked. "Such a large place, this is the room for storing monsters. Outside should be the observation room and the main hall. Then, where do the people here live?"
I nodded, and the two of us turned to leave.
We found no other hidden doors in the room where the monsters were discovered. We returned to the entrance of the observation room.
We slowly examined the walls.
"Brother Lu, here!" Lin Chun's surprised voice rang out. I looked towards his location, where there was a very faint crack.
If one didn't look carefully, they wouldn't see it at all.
I walked over, and the two of us pushed the wall together. That section of the wall slowly moved aside a little...
"There's hope!" I said with a smile.
This was clearly another door.
However, this door was significantly heavier than any of the previous ones!
Both of us had undergone training, our strength reaching an astonishing level.
Even so, it was still somewhat difficult for us to push the door.
We stopped once we had pushed it open enough for a single person to pass, then squeezed through the gap.
Indeed, behind the door was another corridor.
Walking along the corridor, we entered a large room.
As we opened the door to the room, a smell of decay hit us.
Inside were many wooden beds, some with bedding.
However, they had all fallen into disrepair.
Although the air inside was dry, the wood had rotted.
Lin Chun walked over and kicked a bed, which collapsed immediately, shattering into pieces.
"As expected, this place was inhabited..." Lin Chun said with a smile.
I nodded and continued walking forward.
It seemed that many people lived here, but there must have been leaders who wouldn't live in such a place.
We continued forward, observing as we went.
Besides the bedding, there were no other personal belongings on these beds.
In a corner of the room, we found something resembling a stove.
It looked like something had been burned here. We searched through the ashes but found nothing of value.
At the end of this room were five more rooms.
We first pushed open the door to the leftmost room.
The furnishings in this room were also simple: a bed, a chair, and a small square table.
It was clearly much more luxurious than the ones outside.
However, we found nothing of value inside.
We opened the doors one by one, and the situation inside was similar.
On the table in the third room were ink and a brush, but I didn't see any written records.
Even the walls were clean, with no valuable records found.
We continued until we pushed open the door to the fifth room.
The contents of this room were almost identical to the others, with a bed, a chair, and a table.
I casually glanced at the table and suddenly noticed that it was covered with a layer of glass.
This was absent in the other rooms.
The glass was covered in dust, but I didn't care. I stepped forward and wiped away all the dust.
I had expected no findings here either, but as I finished wiping, by the faint light, I saw something pressed down on the glass.
It was a piece of paper.
Lin Chun was overjoyed. Without a word, he pulled out the paper and carefully held it in his hands, examining it.
