Chapter 40 A Shot to the Head

Chen Hu had always been at odds with me at the company. He was Li Degui's lackey, constantly using words to corner me with Li Degui, making me unable to stand my ground!

As soon as Chen Hu saw it was me, he chuckled, "I thought it was someone else. Isn't this security guard Lu! Hurry up and help me up!"

I said coldly, squatting down and looking at him, "Chen Hu, stop the bullshit now. I'm asking you, is Pan Lili with you?"

Chen Hu's eyes darted around. "What Pan Lili? Are you talking about the woman who cuckolded you? I don't know where she is!"

I suppressed my anger and pointed at his nose, saying word by word, "Chen Hu, this is your last chance. Is Pan Lili with you?"

Chen Hu seemed sure that I wouldn't dare to touch him, and even leisurely changed his posture to mock me.

"I don't know, I just don't know. What are you, Lu Ziye, to question me now! You're always so submissive at the company, everyone knows you're a good-for-nothing who's been cuckolded! How did you turn into a phoenix from a carp on this island, now you can even bathe with beautiful women! Tsk tsk tsk, it's like a turtle can't live without water!"

I could no longer control my rage and punched Chen Hu in the face!

Damn it, do they really think I have no temper!

Chen Hu's nose bridge was crooked by my punch. He covered his face, blood gushing through his fingers, and looked at me in disbelief.

"Lu Ziye, you dare to hit me!"

I let out a cold laugh, "I'm hitting you, you son of a bitch!"

Chen Hu's face turned red. He took out a dagger from his pocket and tried to stab my leg.

I kicked him, sending him to the ground.

I turned to Guan Hai'er and told her to collect all the stolen food. Then, I grabbed Chen Hu by the collar and lifted him from the ground.

Chen Hu struggled in mid-air, his hands grabbing my arms, trying to break free from my grip.

"Lu Ziye, you idiot, let me down!"

His curses stoked my anger, and I completely lost my patience. It seemed he wouldn't talk. That was simple!

I choked Chen Hu by the neck and walked step by step to a large tree, then shoved him against the trunk. I took out my gun from my pocket and pointed it at Chen Hu's head.

"I'll count to three. Since you're not saying anything, I'll have to send you on your way."

Chen Hu was so scared that sweat poured down his face. But for some reason, he had the courage to yell, "Go ahead, Lu Ziye, if you have the guts, shoot!"

I never had the patience to talk to such stupid, unreasonable people. I dug my little finger into my ear.

"One."

Chen Hu saw that I seemed serious about killing him and his face turned ashen. He stammered, "You can't kill me! Brother Gui won't let you off!"

Li Degui? What a familiar name. He was probably already devoured by fish by now.

I looked at Chen Hu with amusement, raising my eyebrows.

"Two."

Chen Hu seemed to have thought of something, and fear flashed in his eyes.

"You wait, Brother Gui will avenge me! He'll cut you into a thousand pieces and drag your woman out..."

Before he could finish, I turned my head and pulled the trigger.

With a "bang," Chen Hu, with his unfinished words, met his end.

I wiped my hands with a paper towel, feeling a bit puzzled.

I clearly saw Li Degui fall off the cliff, so how could Chen Hu say he would avenge him?

Could it be that Li Degui survived!

If that were the case, it would make sense for Pan Lili to seek refuge with him!

Guan Hai'er, attracted by the gunshot, ran up to me with her backpack, "Brother Ye, what happened? Why did you shoot!"

She looked behind me, and by the time I reacted to stop her, it was too late. She saw Liu Hu's body and her face turned instantly pale.

She clutched her chest and vomited.

This foolish girl, tsk!

I've never seen her so agile before.

I stepped forward and patted Guan Hai'er's back, covering her eyes, and comforted her, "Don't be afraid, just imagine he's a dead dog. This person was with Pan Lili. I just got some information and had to shoot."

I pulled Guan Hai'er away from Liu Hu's corpse and walked towards the waterhole.

Guan Hai'er's face was still pale, seemingly quite stimulated. As I washed my hands, I explained the whole story to her.

After a while, Guan Hai'er finally felt better and timidly said to me, "Brother Ye, in the future, can you... please not kill people anymore..."

I heard her and my expression became complicated.

I sighed, rubbed Guan Hai'er's head, and said, "On this island, human nature is no longer bound by law. No one can guarantee they won't be the next to die. I don't want to kill, but I have to become stronger, and crueler, to protect you, understand?"

The weak are preyed upon by the strong; this is the immutable law of the jungle!
