Chapter 20 The Former Soviet Ruins

I could no longer control my balance, my whole body sinking completely into the swamp, slowly being dragged down.

Damn it, falling for Li Degui's trap, I'm gonna die!

"Li Degui, you animal, I won't let you rest in peace even as a ghost!" I cursed.

Li Degui let out a booming laugh, looking at me sinking slowly with utmost malevolence, his voice arrogant, "Lu Ziye, you only deserve to rot in this stinking mud! Let's see how you get out now, hahahahaha!"

A fierce glint flashed in my eyes. I had never wanted to tear someone limb from limb so badly.

"Li Degui, just you wait. I'll crawl out of hell and personally butcher you!"

"Then come on, you're already facing death, and you've still got so much to say!"

Perhaps seeing that I was no longer able to break free, Li Degui stood there, mocking me smugly for a few sentences before turning and leaving.

I tried to tilt my head back as much as possible, slowing my descent and preventing the mud from flooding into my nose and mouth.

Am I, Lu Ziye, really going to die here in this desolate swamp today?

I struggled, trying to pull my hands out, but the more I struggled in this swamp, the deeper I sank.

Giving up, I stopped struggling and slowly welcomed my death.

I never imagined that the only thing accompanying me at the end would be a scavenged alloy knife.

Studying, working, falling in love...

People, events... flashed through my mind like a revolving lantern.

Finally, it settled on Li Degui's sinister face.

If I survive this disaster, I will dismember Li Degui piece by piece!

The mud submerged my head, and I gradually lost consciousness...

After an unknown amount of time.

"Cough, cough..."

I coughed violently, struggling to spit out the mud and sand from my mouth.

I... I'm not dead!

I felt myself over, only some minor abrasions, thankfully nothing serious.

I looked up and saw a hole above, as if a thin layer was blocking the swamp.

I got up and stretched my limbs, feeling sore all over. Fortunately, the alloy knife had fallen down with me.

I looked around. It was a room less than 10 meters wide, with emergency lights on the walls and a metal door in front. The style looked a bit old, not like a modern product.

What the hell, where is this! Is this the secret hidden on this island?

I tidied up my belongings, shaking off the mud stuck to me. Holding the alloy knife in my left hand, I cautiously pulled open the metal door.

With a "creak," a loud sound echoed in the air for a long time. This metal door seemed to have not been opened for a very long time, its hinges rusted.

As soon as the metal door opened, I felt a gust of dust rushing towards my face.

How long has it been since anyone lived here? The dust was as thick as my palm!

I covered my mouth and nose and walked forward. Behind the metal door was a long corridor, with rooms of various sizes on both sides, some locked, some not.

Yellowed documents were scattered on the floor of the corridor, appearing very old. I picked one up and saw that it was densely written in Russian. I couldn't understand a single word.

Looking at the environment, it seemed to be related to the Russians.

I picked a few pages and stuffed them into my pocket, thinking that if anyone could read them after I got out.

I didn't rashly enter any of the rooms in the corridor, but walked straight towards the end.

The emergency lights on the wall flickered, and my footsteps echoed alone in the empty space.

At the end of the corridor was another metal door, and beside it was a corpse.

The corpse had dried and decomposed, and the face was still vaguely recognizable as Western.

He was wearing a military uniform, slumped in the corner, and had died without any apparent pain.

I stepped forward and examined his sleeve badge closely. It was a red five-pointed star with a yellow border!

My father was a military enthusiast, and I had learned some military knowledge from him since I was a child.

This kind of sleeve badge was clearly only used by the Soviet army! So, this was a former Soviet military base!

The deeper I went, the more questions I had, and the mysteries compelled me to investigate further.

I endured the unpleasant smell emanating from the dried corpse and searched him.

But I found nothing, so I returned to the metal door.

I had a premonition that all the answers lay beyond the metal door in front of me. I took a deep breath and slowly pulled open the metal door at the end.

What I saw before me left me dumbfounded!
