The shadow concealed a man's corpse!
The man lay face down on the beach, wearing a yellowed life jacket. His lower half was as if gnawed by something, leaving only a bloody, mangled spine!
What in the world happened here!
In this instant, the false sense of security we had found, our shelter, was like a bubble, brutally burst by reality.
If we couldn't escape this island, would we too, like this man, eventually be gnawed by creatures, dying without a burial place!
The island, growing darker as the sun set, completely enveloped my figure. The fear of the unknown seemed to choke my throat, making it hard to breathe.
I turned and whispered urgently to Guan Hai'er, "Guan Hai'er, quickly check if there's anything usable left on the life raft!"
Guan Hai'er was a little scared but still bravely squeezed into the yacht.
I stayed behind to examine the man's body.
The stench of decay and the heavy smell of the sea assaulted my senses. I had to hold my breath just to feel a little better.
Finding a small, hard booklet in his shirt pocket, I quickly disengaged, moving away from the shadow.
Brother, the deceased deserve respect!
Once I'm settled, I'll erect a monument for you. You must watch over me!
Calming myself, I opened the booklet.
After a few glances, my heart sank further!
This was a survival manual, and this yacht was the life raft!
No, this yacht looked quite old; it couldn't have been sent to rescue us.
But if it wasn't here to save us, who was it here to save?
My fingers, gripping the booklet, turned white with exertion, and cold sweat streamed down my face uncontrollably.
"Ye ge, come here quickly!"
Guan Hai'er's call broke my thoughts. I carefully slipped the booklet into my pocket and clambered into the yacht.
I walked all the way to the cockpit. Sand had buried half the space. Guan Hai'er was kneeling on the ground, struggling to dig something out of the sand.
"There's a radio equipment set here! Ye ge, come help me."
This means we can contact the outside world!
I was overjoyed and quickly went to help Hai'er dig through the sand. Before long, we unearthed a set of radio equipment.
Looking at the equipment before me, I scratched my head awkwardly.
When it came to these things, I was completely clueless.
Guan Hai'er, seeing that I didn't know what to do, fiddled with the equipment for a while before saying dejectedly, "Ye ge, this equipment is too corroded; it's unusable now..."
Though I was disappointed by this outcome, it was within my expectations. I comforted Guan Hai'er for a moment, then we continued searching for supplies.
After searching the boat for a long time, we only found a few boxes of sealed canned food and two iron rods that could serve as tools.
It was still something.
The sea wind grew stronger, carrying sand, stinging our eyes.
I looked up at the sky. Layers upon layers of storm clouds filled the sky, as if the heavens were about to collapse.
Bad!
This looked like a massive downpour was imminent!
This place isn't safe to linger. We need to leave quickly!
I grabbed Guan Hai'er's small hand and rushed towards the shelter, urgently telling her, "A storm is coming, we have to go back right now!"
Guan Hai'er also saw the darkening sky and nodded. Suddenly, she seemed to remember something, "What about the three people from before?"
I paused slightly. Li Degui, that good-for-nothing drunkard, couldn't possibly find a suitable place to shelter in such a short time.
I originally didn't want to bother. They chose their own paths; what did their lives and deaths have to do with me!
Even though that's what I thought, I ultimately decided to go back and lead them to the cave.
Not for any other reason, but because I remembered the man's corpse.
On this mysterious island, if we survivors didn't stick together, perhaps I would be the next to suffer.
I pulled Guan Hai'er along the beach, rushing towards the initial shelter.
This is the only time I'll help you!
Don't you dare be ungrateful!
The life raft wasn't far from the shelter. We soon spotted Shangguan Yao and the other two.
Li Degui was chattering on, and when he saw me return, he crossed his arms and sneered, "Oh, Lu Ba'an, afraid you'll starve out there, so you've shamelessly come back?"
I never tolerated scumbags like Li Degui, who are disliked by everyone, "Li Degui, even if you were reborn, I'd still be living just fine."
Hearing my words, Li Degui became furious and lunged forward, about to punch me. I shoved him away.
Shangguan Yao, standing nearby, ignored us. She was staring blankly at the distant sea horizon, seemingly noticing the change in the weather.
"Shangguan Yao, a heavy rain is about to start. The beach is not safe. I found a cave in the rainforest. Come with me now, don't say I didn't warn you!"
I said to Shangguan Yao urgently.
Pan Lili, beside her, pursed her lips nervously upon hearing this but said nothing.
Only Li Degui leaned dismissively against a rock, "Lu Ziye, stop spewing nonsense and fear-mongering here! We're fine here. Are you intentionally trying to trick us!"
Shangguan Yao, lost in thought, looked hesitant, "Lu Ziye, are you telling the truth?"
Does this Shangguan Yao have no brain!
At this point, she's still hesitating.
I was so angry I wanted to turn and leave right then. I came back with good intentions to tell you to escape, and now you're mocking and doubting me. I don't serve you anymore!
Suddenly, the distant sea horizon changed, slowly rising in waves.
Guan Hai'er saw it first, her face turning instantly pale.
"Ye ge, let's go quickly! These waves look insignificant now, but they'll be tens of meters high when they reach us! We won't have time then!"
