For the next nearly week, everyone was adapting to life here, but for some reason, I felt those mercenaries seemed even more motivated.
They were also more proactive in doing things, and I naturally noticed these changes but didn't say much.
It wasn't entirely a good thing, but it wasn't entirely bad either.
The women in the camp were doing simple tasks.
However, since everyone came from modern society, many things didn't need to be taught; they knew how to handle them.
For example, cooking, and some basic skills like farming.
What we needed now was food. Besides catching fish from the sea, we also needed to supplement with things like starch and protein.
This was their most important task at the moment.
Moreover, on the first day the women moved in, I gathered all the mercenaries and held a meeting.
"First point, although this is a deserted island, you must remember the basic morals of being a person," I said, my gaze sweeping over all the mercenaries present, including Lin Chun.
"I know you've had a hard time here, and I won't stop you from communicating or even dating those women in normal ways, but if I find out anyone uses forceful methods..." I smiled slightly, "the consequences will be severe!"
All the mercenaries tensed up, but they didn't say much.
After the rules were set for the day, I immediately found Lin Chun and asked him to help me keep an eye on some of the mercenaries.
Lin Chun agreed.
After a month of peace and quiet like this.
The women had also become accustomed to the lifestyle here, and everyone had become friends.
Under these circumstances, life had a different flavor.
Quite a few mercenaries started dating some of the women, which I didn't mind. As long as it was mutual, there was nothing wrong with it.
Living in a place like this, there wasn't much to worry about.
No need to worry about houses or cars, nor mortgage or car payments.
The tasks each day, besides basic training, were all preparations for living.
To my surprise, these women, from different places, could actually make signature dishes from various regions.
This truly amazed me. I never expected to eat food from so many different places here, and the taste was good too.
This significantly improved our quality of life.
One evening, as I was cultivating, there was a commotion outside the door.
I thought about going out to see, but hesitated and didn't.
Half an hour later, Lin Chun arrived, his face ashen.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Damn it, one of the bastards got his head turned by a woman. He couldn't resist tonight and ran into a woman's room!" Lin Chun gritted his teeth.
I frowned, "Bring the person here!"
Dozens of torches were lit at my room's entrance, illuminating the surroundings as bright as day.
The savages didn't come; these matters were not for them to participate in, but all the mercenaries and the women were summoned.
In the center, two people sat on the ground.
A man and a woman.
The woman clutched her clothes, tears still on her face, while the man looked indifferent.
"Tell me, what happened," I said.
"Tonight, when I was sleeping... suddenly, someone came in, then... then I was pinned to the bed and my mouth was covered..." the woman sobbed, "I struggled desperately, but... but... he still succeeded..."
"If... if others hadn't found out... I..." the woman choked.
"Alright, and you?" I turned my gaze to the mercenary.
The mercenary was released later, and he didn't look too old.
"What she said is true. I had a bit to drink tonight, and I was in high spirits..." the mercenary said with a smile. "I told her during the day I wanted to date her, but she refused. So, I had no choice but to go find her at night..."
Lin Chun's face was grim, and he looked at me without speaking.
"So you don't think you did anything wrong, do you?" I asked with a smile.
"Wrong? What's wrong?" The mercenary's smile didn't fade at all. "This isn't a civilized society, and there are no legal restraints. Everyone is the same; frankly, we're living like primitive people..."
"And then?" I asked.
"What 'and then'? There are no legal restraints anyway, I can do whatever I want. I worked during the day and did what I was supposed to do. Is it wrong to find a woman to have fun with at night?" The mercenary looked at me. "You have a woman, but we don't. We've been holding back for so long, it's just a release, no problem, right?"
