A smile appeared on the faces of the people around them as these words were spoken.
This battle had been effortless. I had drawn the enemy's fire while others dealt damage, and we had sustained almost no losses.
Quite a few of the natives had already arranged the mercenaries' corpses. Initially, I thought their clothes looked good and planned to have everyone wear them.
However, the previous barrage of gunfire had turned those fellows into sieves, meaning their clothes were beyond repair.
Nevertheless, the firearms were mostly intact. Apart from a few rifles that were slightly damaged, the rest were fine.
Most importantly, our ammunition had been replenished this time.
After burying the bodies of those on shore in a designated spot, all the weapons were moved back to the camp.
I had specifically built a room in the camp to store these weapons.
Over a hundred guns were more than enough for everyone here to use for a long time.
"Should we go check out the ship?" Lin Chun asked excitedly, though he was still seeking my opinion.
I could understand his eagerness; all the good stuff would surely be on the ship!
I led them onto the vessel. This ship was about the same size as the previous one. Once aboard, everyone dispersed, and I didn't interfere.
This time, the cruise ship was well-stocked, especially with food. Besides basic staples like rice and flour, we even found over a dozen cases of canned goods.
All of them were beef, specially processed. They looked like they belonged to the military, but the people who disembarked appeared to be mercenaries, and it was unclear where they acquired them.
There was also some frozen food. To my surprise, their freezer was packed with a large quantity of meat.
Pork, beef, lamb, chicken—it practically filled the entire freezer.
And there were many seeds on board: tomatoes, cucumbers, chili peppers...
Seeing these items, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.
Having lived on this deserted island for so long, I had gradually adapted to life here. But to suddenly see food from modern civilization again—that joy was inexpressible.
I immediately called over the mercenaries. These were excellent ingredients, and I didn't want to waste them. They prepared a feast for the natives.
Meanwhile, I personally took charge in the kitchen, making a whole roasted lamb, a pot of spicy lamb soup, and some hand-pulled noodles.
Luo Yaqin was also happy and prepared a large spread of food.
We gorged ourselves at that meal, and only after we were stuffed to the brim did we lie down on the deck to rest.
Just as I lay down, Lin Chun came running over excitedly, holding something and placing it in front of me.
"What is this?" I asked, glancing at it but failing to recognize it.
"A satellite phone!" Lin Chun declared with enthusiasm.
Upon seeing the satellite phone, my heart filled with joy, but it quickly faded.
What use was a satellite phone?
Who could I possibly contact?
Even if we found a way out and left this place, then what?
What would I do then?
Vick's pursuit would surely not stop, and my cultivation would have to continue.
Moreover, venturing into the outside world would be even more dangerous for me.
Perhaps this place was my sanctuary.
"Try to see if it works?" I said, my expression tinged with melancholy.
Luo Yaqin noticed it immediately. She put an arm around mine, her face radiating tenderness. "No matter where you go, I will follow you. And I think this place is quite good too..."
I smiled but said nothing.
This place only allowed for survival. The outside world was vibrant, full of all sorts of novel and interesting things.
Here, I could only stay alive, unable to provide Luo Yaqin with much of a fulfilling life.
"I know what you're thinking, but I'm content with our current life. Being with you is the happiest thing for me," Luo Yaqin said thoughtfully.
I smiled, remained silent, and turned my gaze to Lin Chun.
Lin Chun fiddled with the device for a few moments, his expression suddenly turning grim.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"There's no signal here at all... even the satellite phone doesn't work..." Lin Chun replied with a wry smile.
"Do you want to leave this place?" I asked.
"I think this place is good. I've long been accustomed to this kind of life," Lin Chun said casually. "I was just thinking, if we could connect to a satellite, maybe we could get a TV here..."
At this point, I became rather interested in Lin Chun. I picked up a bottle of white liquor from the side. It had no label, and I didn't know where it was produced.
But the taste was very similar to the sorghum wine I had drunk before.
"Let's chat?" I asked with a smile.
"Sure, let's chat..." Lin Chun said, sitting down beside me. He took out cups and poured one for each of us.
