Chapter 116 Not a Saint

Everything happened too suddenly. Gu Linina and the fat and thin women next to me stared blankly at me, while other survivors not far away heard the commotion and looked over, their expressions turning to shock.

Silence fell over the scene.

I shook my hands, which had been tense, and took a step forward. The fat and thin woman closest to me recoiled as if she had seen a ghost, quickly stepping back.

I chuckled, unconcerned by their reactions.

It wasn't surprising they reacted so intensely. After all, they were people from peacetime, unaccustomed to such a bloody scene.

Let alone seeing dead people, they might not have even seen a chicken killed in their lives.

At some point, killing no longer became an issue for me.

The harsh island life had gradually changed my personality. However, I still held onto the last line of a modern person: I wouldn't offend others unless they offended me.

I felt no guilt for killing the lewd man. If I had shown even a sliver of mercy then, I would be the one lying on the ground now.

Between life and death, showing mercy to an enemy is cruelty to oneself.

A gust of evening wind blew through the trees, carrying a strong smell of blood.

I frowned. This was bad. The smell of blood was too strong here. If it attracted the Fierce Birds from the mountain, it would be a disaster!

This was hardly the time to appease the emotions of the crowd. I called out to Zhuoya, and the two of us used tools to dig a shallow pit in the ground. We then threw in the bodies of the lewd man and the bespectacled man and covered them with soil.

Time was pressing, and I didn't know how far the smell of blood would travel. I could only hope that the thick smell of earth would mask it.

Zhuoya and I were already quite skilled at this process of disposing of bodies, but the other survivors, witnessing our proficiency, were struck by a silent terror that spread among them.

They exchanged glances, seemingly communicating through their eyes.

Yet, none dared to approach us for a conversation. Some of the fainter-hearted even lost control of their bladders and sat down on the ground, filling the air with a nauseating stench of urine.

After tidying up the scene, I turned to face the remaining survivors.

I spoke calmly, "The lewd man and the bespectacled man attacked me first. I was forced to retaliate in self-defense. This has nothing to do with any of you. We will leave at dawn."

The remaining survivors were already stunned by the scene before them. If I had intended to gather them, it would have been quite easy.

However, not to mention whether these people had the ability to survive, the daily sustenance for over a dozen people was a huge problem in itself.

Moreover, they were all women, with little to no hunting skills. In my team, only Guan Haier and Zhuoya could accompany me on hunts, and our supply capacity simply couldn't bear the strain.

I wasn't a saint who saved everyone I met. I was just an ordinary person, like them, stranded on a deserted island and struggling to survive.

The sole purpose was to stay alive.

Of course, I wouldn't abandon them completely. Later, Zhuoya and I would sort through the belongings of the bespectacled man and the lewd man, leaving half of their possessions for the survivors. It would be the last thing I could do for them.

Everyone has their own destiny. The road ahead would be their own to walk.

The remaining survivors, hearing my words, calmed down slightly.

After all, the scariest thing for humans is the unknown. They had no idea what we would do to the rest of them after killing the bespectacled man and the lewd man. Now, with my assurance, they had at least something to comfort themselves with.

I saw that although the remaining survivors were much less shocked by my words, their eyes still held suspicion and unease as they looked at me.

There was nothing I could do about that. Gaining someone's trust wasn't something that could be accomplished in a day or two.

I had already decided not to stay here for too long, so their opinions of me didn't matter much. I beckoned to Zhuoya and walked towards the tent of the lewd man, who was closest to us.

If nothing else, this lewd man was quite adept at hoarding supplies.

His tent was like a small supermarket. The originally small space was crammed full of all sorts of items, leaving only a small area for one person to sleep.

Instant noodles, bread, self-heating rice meals... there was even a dozen beers and a pack of cigarettes!

Was this lewd man on a plane trip or running a convenience store?

While surprised, I couldn't help but mock the lewd man in my heart.

Calling him short-sighted was entirely accurate. He hoarded so many supplies, only to lose his life over a bag of instant noodles.

Utterly brainless!
