Chapter 231 Recognized by the Wolf Pack

I led Qi Xinxin and Qi Qiaoqiao in the direction from which the company staff had emerged. After entering the forest and walking for a short distance, I suddenly saw a jackal crouching in the grass not far ahead.

The jackal was very well hidden, and the two sisters hadn't noticed it. If my eyesight hadn't been good, we would have walked right into its jaws.

"Careful, something's up!"

I grabbed the two sisters and silently pointed towards the patch of grass.

Qi Qiaoqiao's steps faltered, and she looked in the direction I was pointing. She immediately let out a scream.

Fortunately, I reacted quickly and covered her mouth, preventing her from attracting the jackal's attention. I then gestured to her, signaling her and Qi Xinxin to wait for me here.

I drew my alloy knife and slowly approached the jackal.

Damn it, how could there be a jackal in a place like this?

It wasn't that I was being overly cautious.

After all, I'd seen documentaries on TV about how jackals are pack animals. Although I only saw one now, I had no idea if there were any companions hiding in the grass behind it.

One step, two steps...

I slowly approached the beast.

I knew I only had one chance. If I couldn't kill it with a single blow and make it cry out, it might alert its companions, jeopardizing the safety of the two sisters.

Closer, even closer.

Just as I was a few steps behind the jackal, I suddenly saw its ears twitch, and then it whipped its head around!

Not good!

If this beast starts howling, it'll be trouble!

Instinctively, I tensed my body and prepared to rush forward, intending to lop off its dog-like head with a single strike.

However, to my surprise, the jackal, upon turning and spotting me, did not cry out to warn its companions. Instead, it curled its body and let out a low whimper, like a domesticated dog.

Huh?

What's going on?

I suddenly recalled my journey along the underground river. At that time, similar small, weak wild animals had shown no inclination to attack me upon seeing me.

Could it be that there's still a lingering scent on me?

Seeing that the jackal was frozen in place after spotting me, a sudden idea struck me. I slowly sheathed my alloy knife.

If my hunch was correct, this might be the key to breaking through our current predicament!

To test my theory, I walked a few steps towards the ravenous creature.

Then, I reached out and gently petted its head a few times.

The jackal didn't dare to move as I petted it. It even nudged my palm with its head obediently, showing no resemblance to a predator in the forest.

"Uncle Strange, why is he listening to you so well?"

When I stepped forward earlier, Qi Xinxin had been wide-eyed and seemed terrified. Now, seeing me seemingly tame the jackal, she curiously walked closer to me.

"Don't come closer yet!"

Although the jackal had shown submission to me, it sniffed Qi Xinxin's scent and began to act as if it wanted to attack her.

Only when I pressed its head down firmly did it become obedient again.

Looking at the docile jackal before me, my mind began to race.

If I still carried the scent from the underground river,

could I use wild beasts to eliminate Master Li!

As this thought suddenly surfaced, my mind felt as if it had been unlocked, and countless ideas began to pour forth.

Using wild beasts against them would not only keep my hands clean but also conceal my identity. After all, who would have thought that someone could command wild animals to attack their enemies?

I petted the jackal a few more times, then turned to face the two sisters.

"Go to the clearing we passed earlier. There's no danger around there. I'll find you later. Don't wander off!"

Qi Qiaoqiao nodded, took Qi Xinxin's hand, and turned to head towards the clearing.

After ensuring they were temporarily safe, I lowered my head and vigorously rubbed the top of the jackal's head.

"Take me to find your companions, understand?"

Perhaps it was the change in me that allowed it to sense my emotions. When I released my hand, it actually stood up and, wagging its tail, led me deeper into the forest.

I followed it as we went deeper, and before long, I saw a pack of jackals.

This must be a jackal den.

My eyes scanned the area, and there were at least twenty of them, all ferocious.

Just like the first jackal, all of them showed submission upon seeing me, as if they considered me their new pack leader.

I took a wild rabbit from my backpack. I had caught it on the way earlier.

I had originally intended it for our dinner, but now it had found a new purpose.

I made several cuts in the struggling rabbit with my alloy knife. The scent of blood immediately filled the air.

The surrounding jackals' eyes gleamed with greed, but they dared not approach due to my presence, only letting out low growls.

I held the rabbit in my hand and turned to leave. The jackals obediently followed behind me.

Come on, come on!

The show is about to begin!
