Chapter 93: Why Sir Kaelric?
Aven’s POV
Liara ran down their plan from beginning to end. It was fascinating, but I couldn’t help wondering why Aria’s blood had to be the blood used to break a vampire’s spell.
They made it seem like the potion was the reason, but any other person could have taken the potion to save the school.
After all, the princess was here; her cousin should have chosen her, and she could also play hero and save the day.
Aria must be something only Kaelric is aware of, and I need to discover what it is.
Meanwhile, I still have business tracking the vampires at ’the den of coins’.
Since there wouldn’t be any need to see Kaelric any longer, I’ll pay another visit to the den of coins.
But something in their plan made me uncomfortable. Why does she have to be the one going to Kaelric to make him persuade students to eat at the cafeteria?
The princess was his closest relative; then again, she could have easily carried out that part.
A wave of jealousy washed through me, and I felt like slamming the table at the whole plan.
Was she bonding with Kaelric already behind our backs?
I looked towards Damon and Tristan, and I could see the tension in their eyes; they felt it too.
"Is there any place for me to sit?" Mel asked, calling me out of my thoughts.
"What happened to where you were seated before?" Becca and Liara chorused the question and then quickly exchanged knowing glances.
"Tracy’s supporters wouldn’t let me sit with them, they said something, and I objected, and they said I was probably Aria’s supporter and therefore wouldn’t let me sit with them," she answered, her voice faltering in between tenses.
Mel used to be one of Aria’s closest friends in the academy, but it seems like they fell out, or maybe they aren’t just as close as they were before.
"Take a seat there, and tell us what the discussion was all about that you had to object to, and they had to throw you out. Because such a discussion must be serious and juicy," Arlo spoke out, snapping his fingers at Mel and pointing towards the seat in front of me.
"They plan on causing a protest campaign to release Tracy. And with the way they are planning it, it wouldn’t be a peaceful one, so I had to object to some of their chaotic strategies," Mel said, fidgeting all over.
Nothing peaceful ever comes from Tracy, so I don’t expect less from Tricia or Alexa, her little minions.
"When do they plan to protest?" Liara asked in a firm tone, but I could sense a little bit of anxiety in her voice.
"Tomorrow or even later today," Mel answered, her face turning pale like she had said what she wasn’t meant to say.
I never really trusted Mel; she was very sly, fearful and very gullible.
Becca and Liara heaved a sigh in unison. They looked anxious, like they didn’t trust their plans would work out before the protest.
Let’s hope Kaelric was right about this, and let’s hope to carry out this plan successfully.
Aria finally walked into the laboratory, which was quite unlike her to attend classes late; something must have gone wrong.
She walks in, giving everyone a suspicious look, before settling down beside me because there wasn’t any space in the lab anymore for her to sit.
She turned to Liara and whispered something in her ear. I didn’t even care to know what they were talking about, but the look on Aria’s face showed that she disapproved of Mel’s presence.
It also carried a little hint of fear and distrust.
Not long after Aria had settled down, Miss Linda stepped in with a tray of compound solution.
Was she going to distribute that? Was she about to conduct a test?. I wasn’t even prepared for any impromptu class test; I barely survived Sir Kaelric’s impromptu test.
She distributes the solution just as I earlier suspected, barking out some orders about dividing us into groups and what to expect from the bottle of compound she had distributed.
Aria happened to be our group partner. What a coincidence. Now she wouldn’t be able to avoid us anymore. She is stuck with us till Miss Linda decides to change group partners again.
I think Tristan said something, but I couldn’t hear anything, because I zoned out in class. My mind kept drifting to the thought of Sir Kaelric and Aria. I wonder how close their relationship must be now to make her friends think she was the suitable one to convince Sir Kaelric to make the students eat at the cafeteria.
The clatter of the bottle of solution drew me out of my thoughts. My eyes first went to Aria; she was the only one capable of doing this, and her reaction made me think so.
The room was soon filled with fumes, and Miss Linda ended her class. This was the best opportunity to carry out the plan.
We moved swiftly to the general students’ cafeteria, dropped each blood-filled syringe in the food that was being prepared, making sure to fight off any staff who stood in the way.
We then moved to the royal cafeteria and then to the staff cafeteria, repeating the same action throughout the hallway. Both students and staff were scrambling to safety as fumes filled almost every hallway, classroom, and staffroom.
The emergency alert system went off, causing all students to panic, rushing towards the lawn.
Becca passed out before we were done with the operation. Arlo looked weak and on the verge of passing out. We managed to take Arlo out of the school building and onto the lawn before he passed out.
We had to take Becca to the sick bay. But before we could lift her, the emergency team stormed the school hallway and carried her from us, refusing us to follow them to the sick bay.
