Chapter 91: A different face and a code to crack
Andria’s POV
"You have met me before, I’ve also told you my name, but you won’t remember me now because I wear a different appearance. Here is room 47," she said, opening the door to the room and turning immediately to leave.
Her words re-echoed in my head as I watched her retreating figure, before turning to face the door and being instantly hit by their scent.
I could perceive their scent individually, Aven, Tristan, Damon and even Zade.
The alpha successors had disappeared earlier after Becca was taken to the sick bay to stay with her, quite impressive.
I entered the room, and all eyes snapped towards my direction almost instantly.
Becca was already awake, but her eyes were dull. Arlo sat by her side, his hands in her palm.
Zade, Tristan, Aven and Damon sat in different corners of the room.
There was a little tension in the room as their eyes settled on me. I walked towards Becca and sat on the other side of the bed.
She gave me a dry and weak smile, and I didn’t dare to ask her how she was feeling.
A feeling of guilt for causing her present predicament washed over me.
"She just had a minor concoction; she will be fine soon," Arlo said, breaking the awkward silence.
I breathed out a sigh of relief. I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to share that my plan had worked, or if it would be better to discuss it with them when Becca had fully recovered.
I nodded my head at Arlo and returned Becca’s smile. I tried my best to ignore the alpha successor’s stares.
They all looked like they had a lot of questions to ask me, and I probably couldn’t answer them all.
"You pulled a crazy stunt in the laboratory today, little wolf," Aven spoke up, his eyes meeting mine in a heated gaze.
"I hate to admit it, but that was a clever but risky move," he continued with his usual cold but firm tone.
He sounded like he was reprimanding me, and I didn’t like the feel.
"Maybe you should be more careful when you want to pull such a dangerous stunt again. Put weaker wolves into consideration before moving ahead with such plans," Tristan added.
They were lecturing me about consideration, these one-time bullies. How does the word consideration even sit on their mouth?
Then they stood up to leave. Are they also trying to reciprocate my energy, pretending that they don’t want to be in the same room as me? How funny!
"You have managed to chase our mate from us," Athena growled softly. " I just hope that your character doesn’t make them reject us."
I felt a sharp pain in my chest as Athena spoke of their rejection.
I didn’t want to admit it, but I’m beginning to grow fond of the Alpha successors I once called monsters.
Just then, the door creaked open, and as Liara and Michaela walked in, the Alpha successors exited.
Liara looked at me in a questioning manner as if I were the one responsible for the alpha successor’s exit.
I threw my hands up in the air, a gesture that revealed I was unaware of the sudden reason they had to leave.
Becca rolled into the bed, her eyes lighting up at the sight of Liara. Color was beginning to return to her face.
"Who is she?" Becca asked.
I could sense that, although she was happy about Liara’s presence, she felt unsafe about Michaela.
Liara and I exchanged awkward glances.
"I didn’t tell her anything about your new friend, that’s your own story to tell," I said, urging her to introduce her friend.
"This is Michaela, Michaela, this is Becca and Arlo," Liara said, gesturing towards each one of them.
"Where did you two meet, and how did you two become friends all of a sudden, while I was here. You didn’t wait for me to die or leave the school grounds before trying to replace me," Becca grumbled, a slight frown grazing her temple.
"I didn’t try to replace you; you can’t be replaced," Liara said, clearing her throat. "You are Becca, and she is Michaela; there’s a difference."
Sometimes Liara spoke coldly, or instead spoke as if she didn’t consider emotions. But what do I expect from a princess who has been locked up in the castle almost all her life?
Becca frowned at her response and looked over to Arlo, ignoring Liara.
Liara must have sensed Becca’s hurt and decided to pacify her.
"I met Michaela on the lawn in the midst of chaos between Tricia and Tracy’s loyal supporters. She explained the details of their chaos, and I invited her to join us for lunch," she explained.
"Tracy’s spell is beginning to wear out, and we are beginning to gain our active supporters back," Liara added.
"I knew that I was under a spell. How else would I want to support Tracy, who once bullied me to the extent I considered dropping out of the academy?" Michaela blurted out in a high-pitched tone, causing all eyes to snap towards her.
"The plan worked?" Becca almost squealed, but her voice came out as a wheeze. "I feel so much better knowing that this suicidal plan actually worked out. Now we can go ahead with our election preparations."
"You haven’t recovered fully, and you are already talking about election preparations," Arlo stated in a sarcastic tone.
"Get some rest and maybe we can discuss the election preparations by tomorrow," I added.
Becca nodded happily. She seemed even more excited than I, who carried out the plan. Becca easily gets excited by good news and saddened by bad news.
Becca is soft-hearted and also innocent, but she was far from gullible.
"Have you heard from Mel since the lab incident?" I asked Liara.
"She just disappeared all of a sudden, and I haven’t seen her anywhere in the school grounds. She might have found her way to the dorms," Liara suggested.
Mel is obviously another code to be cracked; she moves suspiciously.
